Default LC tach 10K?

why does the tach go to 10K when it appears to be impossible to get anywhere close?

My tach doesn’t go up to 10.....it displays 9 and the decorative paint extends to what maybe near the hoped for 10- but no 10,
and I doubt it would rev that high before cut off anyway so why complain ?

^^^^The tach only displays 10K RPM when in Sport+ mode. In all other modes it "only" goes to 9K.

i'm not 'complaining', i just find it kind of pointless to have a tach that goes to 10k when the car cuts off at 7k, so over 1/4 of the tach is unused.

It's pretty standard practice in many cars, both with the tach and the speedometer. I'd guess your speedometer goes to 160 but the car won't go that fast.

You also never know with the aftermarket, sometimes the limits are lifted or removed and you'd want to see that.

speedometer's very different than tach though.

the LC's high revving V8 is designed to be revved, just seems something like this is better:

Why is it different? It's a gauge that reads to numbers you can't achieve. And if you remove your rev limiter in the LC with a tune, you could rev to 10k. Well maybe once or twice.

But you should definitely buy a Ferrari if you don't like the LC tach design .

Dave you're right, my car's speedometer is 160 and it can reach 155, so almost all of it.

it's different because a tach range is used over and over through the gears, not just one absolute measure.

lexus GS versions for comparison:

haha, man everyone's so sensitive! it was an observation, not a criticism! i guess we're only allowed to make glowing positive comments.

if you don't like what i posted in this thread, you're not required to read or reply or make snarky remarks.

It is a common occurrence for vehicles to be made this way. Just drove a 2019 Malibu the other day, tach went to 8k, RPM's would only go as high as 5. It's all for glamour, I'm sure.
