It is a common occurrence for vehicles to be made this way. Just drove a 2019 Malibu the other day, tach went to 8k, RPM's would only go as high as 5. It's all for glamour, I'm sure.
A Malibu, now that's funny.
looks like it goes to 6.5K redline (8K max). of course i don't know where the rev limiter is within that danger zone.
^^^^The tach only displays 10K RPM when in Sport+ mode. In all other modes it "only" goes to 9K.
Lou
Mine only goes 9 in Sport and Sport+. If you’re considering the gap after the 9 as 10 then you’re sadly mistaken. If so, then I guess mine goes from -1 to 10.
^^^^^Sadly huh Some folks are taking this thread much to seriously IMHO As far as the Tach showing 9 or 10K does it really matter? But, in Sport+ the red band extends down another 1K after the 9K which in my book means 10K
well now flying farts or not it may be helpful to refer to my original exclamation that the tach doesnt go to 10...
lets all buckle up and agree that the numeral 10 is nowhere to be seen, and since we lexus overachievers
are precise by nature, well then, the tach doesnt go to 10....!
perhaps more interesting are the two photos hereabouts showing the tach changing color as it bumps redline...

Agreed. Some people have way to much time on their hands and are just looking for ways to hype (in their book) the LC. LOL.

agreed there is no 10 numeral, i was inferring from the roughly 1k-sized red segment after the "9".
Definitely no crisis or matter of life or death, i was merely commenting because if the cut off is 7000 or 7300 as i've seen, then maybe the tach only needs to go to 8 or 9K.

But, again, who really gives a flyin' fart

There are a number of Ferrari's that have a redline that end at 10 but their peaks are around 7000. Nothing wrong with it, the Lexus LC has a obscene 7100rpm which is just out of this world for a mainstream branded car that is obtainable. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any car that exceeds 7100rpm from a regular mainstream brand.
Another detail, the gauge is a perfect 12 spot design just like a clock.... a little section is used for "normal/sport or sport+" details.
Any auto enthusiast would appreciate this type of detail for a gauge cluster....what Lexus is attempting to achieve with their design direction for the LC is to create some sort of automotive passion....some type of experience that creates memories and a future following for people that are buying these higher end models....it takes a very long time for a following/legacy to be created...this new LC will long be talked about when the model is out of production and it allows Lexus to create something even more “special” for the next generation of 2-door whenever that is.
When you dive into the nuts and bolts of the LC:
-rear wheel steering
-a real mechanical Torsen limited slip differential
-carbon fibre roof
-21” wheel
-5.0 naturally aspirated V8 with a 7100rpm limit
-alcantra headliner
-advanced climate concierge
-titanium valves
-carbon fibre scuff plates
-10-speed automatic transmission
-a 10,000 rpm cluster
-35 series rear only tires while front has 40
^^^...you would think the above parts are from something that is NOT a Lexus....the above mention parts would never ever be associated with Lexus in the first 20 years of their cars....but they are now.
Below is a Ferrari

Thanks for adding a semblance of sanity to this thread Redline is actually 7300 RPM.

No problem. Glad I could offer some hope of positivity.
When the LC came out at first, I was critical of the 5.0...but reading about the car...the 5.0 is a pretty impressive engine and I be interested to know what other naturally aspirated V8 compare.

Is a 10 cylinder an issue when it comes to redline?

I can’t say, I’ve never pushed it that high or rarely drive in M. Peak power @ 8250. Aventador V12 peak @ 8400. These things were built to hit the high notes.
It's pretty standard practice in many cars, both with the tach and the speedometer. I'd guess your speedometer goes to 160 but the car won't go that fast.
You also never know with the aftermarket, sometimes the limits are lifted or removed and you'd want to see that.
160? Speak for yourself, friend.... 😜
I've gone past that.
