I'm sure you've all noticed this nifty feature. As you open the car door, the window rolls down slightly. The window neatly rolls back up when the door has closed.
In most cars, closing the door causes a brief increase in cabin air pressure. Opening the door causes a brief decrease in the cabin air pressure.
If the window is slightly down, this doesn't happen; the air pressure inside and outside the cabin equalize.
Slightly opening the windows may prevent momentary driver / passenger ear discomfort.
I think this is why Lexus engineered this feature.
It probably reduces wear on the weather stripping, but I don't think this is the reason. I've seen this feature in no other vehicle.
Pursuit of Perfection indeed. If I'm right, Lexus has gone to a lot of trouble to fix a very small issue (one I've never really thought about).
Perhaps I'm wrong. Have any of you LC drivers learned Lexus' true reason for including this feature?
As an aside, I still get thumbs up, waves, grins, mouthed words I understand and appreciate, and rolled-down windows for quick conversations when take the LC 500 (Ultra White) out for a drive.
I bought it one year ago. 7500 smiles.

 

Been around for years. I doubt Lexus invented it. I've seen it on many cars with frameless windows. I first noticed it when I was test-driving Camaros a few years ago. Here's one of many posts that discusses it...

As I remember this feature was introduced in 1954 on some of the GM "hardtops". I first saw it on an Oldsmobile Holiday Coupe of that model year.

Definitely been around for years. I see it on mercedes, vw, audi, etc.

 

standard feature of any car with frameless windows. Glass wont seal or maybe even damaged if its closed in the full up position

yes, many frame-less windowed cars have the feature, but it is not on every car with frame-less windows... it just depends on how the windows were engineered to set again the weather seals. As in last couple gens of toyota Supra, the doors/windows shut fine against the seals and didn't need to drop below any drain lips, so no window movement during open/close was needed.
