I’ve installed an exhaust valve controller on my LC500 and wired it to the garage door buttons on the rearview mirror. Anyone else done this?
The difference is night and day — especially right after startup and in everyday driving. The exhaust stays noticeably more burbly and alive once warm, giving the already musically perfect 5.0L V8 a deeper, lower rumble in situations where the valves would normally stay closed (below ~3,000 rpm and under 50% throttle).
It adds real drama without being obnoxious. Lower-rpm downshifts are way more satisfying now: 3→2 at around 45 mph gets noticeably louder with occasional sharp burps, and 2→1 finally has that proper, grin-inducing pop.
I love having the quick-toggle right on the mirror buttons — super convenient for switching between stealth mode (early mornings/neighborhoods/wife) and full visceral fulfillment…
Did not wire it in, but my exhaust came with a wireless remote which I've mounted to the glass just above the mirror, so almost as simple as the HomeLink.
Yup, I did the same with the exhaust controller. At idle it's really hard to tell, but definitely below 3,000 rpms it sounds much better. I've considered an aftermarket exhaust, but I think it's actually perfect the way it is.
I've programmed my exhaust to a Homelink button as well. I love having the exhaust open so I never use the button, but it's nice to know I can adjust if I ever need to.
