That’s an interesting take. The LC 500 looks less contrived, more organic and elegant. Tastes definitely vary for sure.
"Less contrived." Well stated! That's the key. The LC500 has a simplistic beauty to it. It doesn't have all sorts of random angles that try to make a brash statement. Its lines just flow elegantly, and it's that elegance that makes it so attractive.
Speaking of Calty, i was in LA for work and I decided to stop by Calty to check it out. Although not available for the public, I was able to convince the receptionist lady to give me a tour (although they wouldn’t let me take any photos of the inside or any of the projects) I was lucky enough to have met a few designers who did work on our LC and I gave them a huge heap of praise.

Specifically, how does it make the LC500 look dated?
Lexus new design is very edgy and futuristic looking. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea. But remember back when Lexus introduce the “spindle grill” predator look on the GS350. It took awhile but eventually it’s became the Lexus look and other manufacturers grown into the massive front grill as well.
I wish this new sport concept look came out as the second generation LC as a 2024 model. Even with the current V8, I think it would’ve been a good second gen. Instead we had a chop shop dash design to fit in the touch screen and nothing else really.
I think this will make LC500 price hard to appreciate and it will never become the future classic made believe by all the YouTubers. If this thing is priced within 140-180k, LC500 will never get close to that. I hope I’m wrong because I have a 2024 LC500 that I love but I’m not going to say I won’t be trading it in.
Have you seen an RZ on the road? I actually like the look and there’s nothing like it on the road. I think it a handsomely futuristic design and not like BMW current new look. I think the new ES will be handsomely stand out when they’re on the road too.

@NickL
You aren’t alone with your preference and you’ll certainly have company. “Edgy and futuristic”? I understand that appeal for some buyers. It’s similar to Corvette C8 versus C7. A decent number of Corvette enthusiasts find the previous C 7 generation more attractive. Time will sort it all out in the marketplace. The LC 500 has a refined, sophisticated and classic aesthetic that will endure as time passes.
IMHO, I think the 'sports concept' is a follow-on to the discontinued RC (racing coupe) for the GT3 competition series. Replacement? Note that two 'sports concepts' in GT3 and (possible homologation) street versions shown running at Goodwood with the latter shown at the California event sans camo.
Question: I was going to buy a LC 500 but I am not sure it will work for my wife and I. (Size of the trunk.) Should I wait for the Sport Concept model if and only if it has a V8? ( I am not interested in a hybrid or a 4 or 6.) I'm not crazy about a dual turbo - rather have a supercharger or N/A - but if any vendor can make turbos work it is Toyota/Lexus.
If it has an AWD version so much the better.
What do people think?
PS
We drove an AMG GT 55 2 door coupe' and liked it very much - this is the sort of car we want. However, I feel that Lexus makes a higher quality product.

^^^^Are you talking coupe or convertible? The trunk in the coupe is really not that small. The convertible's trunk is smaller due to the top mechanism. I find the coupe's trunk adequate, but then I also own a pickup
You and your wife have test driven the AMG GT and were very impressed with it. I would recommend test driving the LC 500 coupe and/ or convertible for comparison. The AMG GT has more horsepower/ torque and more speed and acceleration. As I’m sure that you are aware of, there are many more aspects of a car to consider besides that one criteria.

The Monterey car was pretty clearly not the same vehicle as the Goodwood cars (which in turn were very clearly two versions of the same vehicle). We had a good look even at the interior of the Goodwood cars, whereas the Monterey car had black (or even false) windows, so clearly is MUCH less further advanced in its development. As far as I can make out, the Monterey car is a pure concept, at this stage (even more so than the LF-LC was, all those years ago), for a BEV performance coupe. In the meantime, I expect we'll see production and racing versions of the new V8 car, over the coming months. Whether it has a much larger trunk than the LC remains to be seen, though somehow I doubt it, looking at the aero package. Did manage to fit a full-size (soft sided) suitcase in the trunk of my LC500 coupe yesterday...!

I would not bank on the new thing from Lexus really having that much more usable trunk than the LC. I find the LC to be adequate for most needs when you make use of the back seat for storage in addition to the trunk in the coupe.
The AMG GT certainly has a roomier trunk (almost double) and if you get the 2+2 option I think the rear seats can fold giving you even more space for bulkier items.

Narration/translation says "electric powertrain" for what it's worth.
We're getting reports that the Lexus Sport Concept that unexpectedly debuted at The Quail is causing confusion online over whether it's meant to be an EV or a preview of the upcoming LFA successor. Luckily, we were on the scene to set the record straight and confirm that the Sport Concept seen here is in fact all-electric. Does that mean its design isn't also the hybrid LFR hiding in plain sight? Let the speculation continue! –Eric Stafford
