Author Alarm/IGLA
Hi All,
I bought the LC for it's intended purpose, Grand Touring. As we will be travelling long distances not knowing for sure where we might end the day (good/bad parts of towns). I had a fair amount of anxiety about leaving the LC in random Hotel parking lots overnight.
So I have been looking for awhile at adding extra layers of security to the car, so in addition to a bright yellow steering wheel brace I had the Author Alarm/IGLA system installed. I was happy to find a newly authorized installer (The Car Audio Store. N Lamar Blvd....they did a great job) here in Austin, previously the nearest installers were Dallas/Houston.
In effect the system is an immobilizer and protects against CAN bus attacks, relay attacks and anti car jacking (information can be found on-line for their different systems/add-ons).
I know it will not help if the sc**bags steal a low loader first but it might defeat the less organized thieves.
Not sponsored, just a heads up/recommendation.
Rgds.

I was considering IGLA / other similar products too. My understanding, based on conversation with one of the installer near me, is that IGLA requires splicing of electric wires which potentially can void the warranty should there be a problem in electrical system. There was a thread in RX forum where a customer in Canada had installed IGLA and faced some electric problem soon after. Lexus denied warranty work.
Hi,
I did ask the question, my installer said there would be no splicing and the manufactures warranty would not be affected (their website also mentions this).
Tried to find the article you mentioned, found one but I could not see where the IGLA was discussed.
I don't think you would ever win the argument against a large corporation. If I was ever in that situation, I would just hide a key fob in the car and not tell them about the installation. Car manufactures are in the business of moving metal, your car is stolen you buy a new one, falls apart after the warranty period you buy a new one (10,000mile oil changes comes to mind) etc.
There are pro's and con's to everything but I will sleep better at night knowing I have made the effort (more than the manufactures have done) in keeping my 1yr old 3k miles baby in MY possession.
Rgds
ps. But I do have any problems with the installation, I will report back.

Of course we need a security system on this car that makes us comfortable knowing it cannot be stolen that easily. Congrats for adding the feature.
BTW mine has glass breakage sensor installed at port but I still wanted additional layer for the peace of mind. Hence I have a fuse/relay based solution.
Regarding the RX article, here it is https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toron...bill-1.6976240
It does not call out any manufacturer specifically but one can determine based on this article, the CL thread and product installation details. I am not against any car security product or manufacturer - each one has its pros and cons, and each consumer makes the decision on their own.
