Tried to search this and apologize if this has been covered previously, but no luck. Does anyone have photos of the roof, finish/texture/color on your LC 500 advantages/disadvantages?

here's mine. finish is glossy smooth and there's no texture (presume it's lacquer/clear coated somehow.

How much lower is the carbon fiber roof compared to the glass? It's not like the glass is an inch thick! If the roof's height is structurally lower then why? I'm not understanding the reasoning for lowering the roof between the two.

 

The roof is the same height on both. The decreased weight of carbon fiber roof compared to glass results in an overall lower center of gravity.

 

Well, according to the Lexus engineers the carbon fiber roof provides,
1 Increased structural rigidity.
2 Lowers the center of gravity.
How much of a difference does it make in practical terms I do not know. I just assume they believe these attributes are meaningful. Aesthetically the carbon fiber roof is a positive attribute in my opinion.

 

Dynamic Handling Package comes with Carbon Fiber Roof and Sill plates. Rear Wheel Steering, variable steering wheel ratio. Torsen differential and other goodies, if you want a coupe It is the way to go.

 

Come on we are talking about maybe a couple of pounds here at best. The car weighs over 4100lbs, I don’t think it’s going to make a huge difference.

you missing out on a buffet will have a more impact than this cf roof.

 

And how does the cf produce better rigidity than the glass? If the glass is flexing wouldn’t cracking/breakage occur? Not buying that line of marketing to sell an exponentially more expensive option. Just say what it’s really all about, if you like cf here’s a roof for you!

 

CF is 5x stronger than steel and twice as stiff.CF tensile strength is 6x that of steel. CF roof lowers the center of gravity. Adding a buffet meal will lower the CoG even further.

 

Listen,you are most certainly entitled to your own opinion and beliefs. If it’s just marketing BS to you, fine. I don’t doubt the engineers who tout the superior torsional strength of carbon fiber compared with other structural materials. To each their own.
