Default Curb ramps anyone?

I'm a bit surprised that I didn't find any threads on this topic here on the LC page, and the threads on other pages are quite old. I just bought/installed a set of Bridjit curb ramps. My driveway has a bit of a lip at the curb, and scraping has been an issue for my LC as well as my prior car. The Bridjit ramp has been great! It's sort of like driving over train tracks now (i.e. slightly bumpy), but it eliminates the huge bounce whenever I would drive onto or off of the driveway. The fit along my driveway is not ideal since I'm at an angle in a cul-de-sac, but it's good enough.

There are a few other brands out there, but I liked Bridjit as it's made in the USA. It's a bit pricey, but I'm glad I spent the money.

This has been a public service announcement.

Thanks for this. I have a similar approach to my driveway and I solve the problem by always backing in and never putting myself in a position to have to have the front of the car face uphill, but I am about to put a kit on mine and I'm afraid with the lip I won't have enough clearance when pointing nose down either.

I'll keep this in mind if it's questionable once I put the lip on!

I have seen those, as well as what appeared to be metal plates lying at the end of driveways on inclines. I thought that perhaps an HOA might have an issue with them.

Can't someone just easily steal those 3 pieces?

Default Curb sawing

Why not just have someone saw your curb flat. Many in my subdivision have done that.

I do not own the property at the end of the driveway.... Well technically I do but it has an easement back to the CDD from sidewalk edge to sidewalk edge so they can maintain the road surface, so I don't want to alter it lest they come after for the cost to restore it. They have gone after neighbors who have moved trees that are planted within the easement (neighbors moved them to avoid root buckling of the sidewalk, which would then be homeowner liability). The things that can be picked up and moved out of the way seems a better option. I'm not worried about theft (gated community + cul de sac).

Each piece weighs 50 pounds, and the three pieces are bolted together in such a way that it's difficult to un-bolt them. Bolting them together on my own was a decent chore! So theft is a possibility, but it would need to be coordinated, and most neighborhood thieves - at least around here - are not quite so clever.

Just to be on the safe side, I submitted a request to my HOA. I mentioned the fact that our driveways were designed this way, and it was due to the builder's design that I needed a fix to the problem that they created. My request was approved within two hours (it usually takes several days).

Love the bridjit ramps. Can be heavy when you bolt them together as I did so it’s a task sometimes to flip over to clean underneath. Worth it though 😊

I have SUCH a dim view of thieves.

Our neighborhood and other neighborhoods nearby get hit every 8 to 10 months by ******-and-grab thieves. About a half dozen of them will drive into a community in the middle of the night, rush from driveway to driveway checking all of the car doors that they can find. For any that are unlocked, they'll grab what they can from the car and move on. Their goal is to be in and out of the community within 90 seconds or less, so that even if someone calls the cops, they'll be long gone by the time anyone shows up. So even if they were interested in swiping the curb ramps, it would take them too much time, and they'll probably give themselves a hernia doing so. I'm not too worried.

And yes, there are still people in the neighborhood who leave their cars unlocked and outside, despite these occurrences.

In a funny happenstance, the last time they were in our community, the driver was in a little too much of a hurry to leave, and he hit a mailbox on his way out, shearing off his rear-view mirror in the process. The last I heard, the police were in the process of identifying the car/owner from the evidence.

Cool idea, I like it. They would definitely benefit one end of my circular drive (never go that way because of the angle) but I'm pretty sure the City Plow guys would toss them into the neighbors yard and keep on going. They've done that with the mailbox before. Now if they had recessed cement bolts, getting out the Hammer Drill!
