For the longest time, when I looked in the side mirror to check the blind spot, the presence of the lit BSM LED never even registered in my brain. Now after six years, I use it as a first indication. I adjust the mirrors to see the blind spot, but always do a shoulder check out of habit.
It's the opposite for me. I have it on 100% of the time but whenever I need to check my speed or see what gear I'm in, I always default to looking at the cluster instead of the HUD that's right in front of me. Force of habit or the HUD is not noticeable enough for me (especially if wearing polarized sunglasses), I don't know which it is yet LOL. Maybe I need to tape a cover over the cluster for a couple of weeks to train myself into using the HUD
Last year I purchased prescription non-polarized sunglasses just for the LC. I know some have indicated polarization didn’t affect them as much, but I didn’t like the fuzziness with the HUD. They just stay in the car all the time since I never know for sure when the tops coming down. BTW, went with a more wrap-around style because I found with the top down and no hat on, the sunshine coming in over the frames was aggravating (it’s the little things).
I can easily understand how the HUD could be perceived as a distraction. I really don’t see the advantage of having it but recognize that some people find them quite useful. Horses for courses.
