Picking up used LC 500 convertible next week, question
I guess I won't officially be a member of this group for a few more days. I'm buying a 2021 convertible with about 30,000 miles from a Lexus dealership, Car appears to be in great shape and they're even throwing in two-years of an extended warranty. The one anomaly I've noticed is that the car has a different colored soft top than "officially" stated in the build sheet.
The vehicle is liquid platinum with a dusty rose top, Looks striking but my research suggests it was not offered in 2021. The Carfax and Lexus service history make no mention of a new top. I know they're not cheap so I'm scratching my head as to what happened. I love the color combo and am not complaining...any thoughts? Thanks.
It’s certainly possible the prior owner liked the color of the top once they came out and paid $$$ to replace it. I’ve seen crazier things.
Not all shops report to Carfax. And the knowledge level of the average car dealer/salesman about what was offered when is…low. Wouldn’t surprise me that they had no clue.
It appears that the Dark Rose top was first available in 2022 in the Inspiration Series Convertible. Then available in 2024 in the Convertible with the Rioja Red interior. So the OP's convertible seems to be a unicorn
The top was definitely changed for some reason. I find it hard to believe that the previous owner decided to just lay down around 20k to change the color of the top. Very strange.

Sign up for Lexus Driver then enter the VIN, you can find out more info.

I’ve seen people spend more for dumber reasons. Just saying.
A nice set of wheels from certain top brands aren’t *that* much cheaper and equally purely for aesthetics.
You may or may not uncover the reason but nonetheless it is a very attractive color combination. Post your initial driving impressions if you are so inclined.
Thanks for all the feedback. I did look up the "build sheet" and it listed the top as black. I've gone through the Carfax, which showed two very minor accidents both front end. Can't see anything on the car that looks out of whack - dings, scratches, stone chips. The Lexus service history doesn't mention anything about a top replacement. I'd be a bit more concerned if it wasn't an actual Lexus dealer. So far they have been a pleasure to work with. As mentioned, they are throwing in two extra years of unlimited warranty. Car has been serviced regularly.
Sold my much beloved Mercedes SL550 (R231) and thought I'd give the LC500 a go. Looking forward to comparing/contrasting the two vehicles.
Congratulations

Are you able to request the dealership access maintenance records (something about the top switcho should be included)?
Back in this thread somewhere someone mentioned A Knife Through The Vert Top.
This makes me wonder if maybe That is the case here and the owner at the time Strongly Requested that NO "official" note of the top replacement be made in the cars records under the thought of We don't want future owners wondering What else may have been done to damage this car. Sugar in the gas...etc;

I was actually able to register the car and VIN on the Lexus owner's website. That gave me access to all Lexus records on file. There was nothing that indicated any incident with the top.
There was one amusing entry where the owner brought the car in complaining a power window switch was broken only to be told he had the window locks on.
