Default DIY Oil Change Tutorial

New 2024 LC and I'm getting close to the 1,000 mile mark. I am planning on doing a DIY oil change but couldn't find one here nor in YT.

Any help? Procedure/Parts/Specs/etc

Coincidentally, I found these SuperTech oil filters on sale for $2.97 a piece @ Wally World. They are made in the USA by Champion Labs and supposedly excellent filters.

I just had the dealership do my first oil change. You know it's free right?

Dont buy NON OEM oil filters! the OEM Toyota ones are only 11 dollars (Canadian). I don't think its worth the few bucks to buy some 3rd party oil filters when OEM isnt that much more. Same with the oil, i wouldn't cheap out too much on the oil, but if you go cheap on oil, make sure the intervals are super short and change it very often.

^^^^I use WIX XP Oil Filters, not to save money, but because I believe they are superior to OEM:

And Yes, Don't cheapen out on oil or oil filters

Im at 3200 miles, waiting till 5000 for my first "free" oil change at dealer. Im 75 and really dont care about the 1000 mile oil change theory. Will do my own changes at 10K using Toyota 5W30 dino oil and toyota oil filters.. Nothing changes till my warranty is up.

Has anyone successfully skipped the 1k "factory" service and gotten 2 free oil changes (one at 5k and one at 10k)? I have a feeling that don't work and dealer will tell you the free maintenance only covers one oil change at 5k plus the 1k inspection service you skipped

For the 2024 model year, it specifically says this on the brochure:

Lexus provides complimentary maintenance for your first two scheduled visits at the earlier of 6 months/5,000 miles and 12 months/10,000 miles. See Warranty and Services Guide for details. For Lexus vehicles registered and normally operated in the continental United States, U.S. territories and Canada.

I wish this were true but I have to disagree with what’s provided when you buy the car.

Yeah I've seen that but then in other places it says "first 2 scheduled maintenance visits are free" and for this particular vehicle, per the vehicles warranty and services guide, the first 2 are the 1k and the 5k.

I wouldn't bank on most dealers playing ball with 2 free oil changes for the LC, but ymmv.

I have to admit I haven't checked out the booklet yet because it's so hot in the garage (100+ degrees here in SoCal).

So seeing it now, it is definitely confusing. I will give my local Lexus service department a call tomorrow....

Guys .. I just got my free oil change a week or so ago at 1000 miles. Dealer was very clear free service at 1k miles and second free service at 5k miles. The first 2 services are free. If you choose to do the first one at 1k then the second is at 5k. For the 24s the first service is recommended at 1k as per the manual.

I also don't understand something ... My car was 125k out the door ... when you guys spend so much on a car why are you concerned on sending it in to the dealer for a 200 dollar oil change every year?? Granted that some of you guys did not pay cash for it so you might have a different sense of value of time versus money ... but still ... what exactly are you saving and how much time are you spending doing an oil change yourself and not bringing it in for a full service and oil change? This way they also do a full inspection which I don't think you will be doing.
