I just started using Android Auto on the car and have a question about google maps. On the top left of the screen there's a search bar. Below that it shows a few previous searches/locations. Is there a way to click the little ^ arrow on the right-hand side of the search bar so the search locations below can be minimized? I saw a youtube video with a guy who minimized the section I'm describing by clicking on the ^ symbol but he had a touch screen. It doesn't seem to be clickable with the trackpad controls on the LC500. I've attached a pic below and circled the area in red.

Also, for those of you that use a wired connection for Android Auto or Carplay, where do you store your phone while driving? I don't like using that center console cup area because my arm usually rests on there while using the trackpad. I was thinking of possibly buying a little phone pouch like the one below and sticking it against the side of the center console to the right of my leg.

Don't have a answer for the first part. For some reason my Google Maps screen looks a bit different to yours.
However for the "where to store" part: I put my cell phone into a standard call phone cradle that is in the cup holder.
Why? Because now Google Maps allows to see more info on the phone as a secondary screen. Or sometimes I use the phone screen for selecting Podcasts/Music
This way I can do many secondary interactions on the phone itself without having to use the main screen (which typically shows Google Maps via Android Auto for navigation/speed traps).

 

i believe to select the arrow you have to select search box. by either going up column of apps on left them over, or select gear then up to search box, then right.

Showing recent or suggested addresses doesn't bother me too much. I just can't figure out how to click that up arrow to minimize the addresses. It's just not clickable even though on touchscreens it is.

 

Ok, I found a solution for that because it bothered me as well. And it is not a wase.
I am an Android developer and I can understand the issue. It is all because the default focus was set on that search field and when screen is in wide mode it opens the drop down menu. If map screen is small, let’s say you open media player on the left side and map is small on the right side, then search field is collapsed.
ok back to search field. You will not be able to shrink it into icon till google map devs fix that issue. BUT you can remove focus from search field and drop down menu will disappear. To do so, move cursor to very top left screen menu which shows notifications, the panel will open, click same menu again and panel will close and search menu collapses into one row.

I believe the best mounts to be www.proclipusa.com. The LC version mounts just above the “Oh ****” handle in the center console. You can also still see the clock from the driver seat while phone is in the mount.

Received my mount today.
This is without a doubt the best cell phone mount I have ever had.
The fit is perfect with no wobble and full view of the dash.
