For those who have chrome deleted your cars, what's the best method for blacking out the chrome exhaust trim and the chrome sections directly above it? Take it to a body shop and have them paint it black? Powder coating?
Also, the katana blades on the roof and the trim around the front grill? Have it painted or wrapped in black?
Black vinyl wrap is the easiest and most common way. Exhaust surrounds may get hot and start peeling the vinyl though so I left mine alone and eventually replaced them with Tom's titanium tips.
You could paint or powder coat the surrounds but I think they look nice in chrome as they bring attention to the exhaust.
I've honestly been considering to remove all the chrome delete now that my wheels are also black.
Here's mine after chrome delete, with OEM chrome surrounds.
Although more costly, you can install carbon fiber over various chrome pieces: addict.myshopify.com/en-us
I don't really like the look of a bunch of carbon fiber on this car. I already own another car that has tons of carbon fiber. I think it suits certain cars and not others. Just my opinion of course.
The stock finishing chrome trim looks extremely high and and very adult, professional, and classy on the LC. These trims are carefully chosen, styled, and implemented by teams and teams of high-salaried designers who go to school for this stuff. In my opinion, it would not look good monotonous. Trim is used to highlight and create certain proportions, design, and character within the body lines. It's very carefully and deliberately done as a package. If you disrupt it with paint, plastidip etc, you risk breaking that up and losing any of the presence the original designers intended. And this is coming from someone who's blacked out, wrapped more trim than anyone here--back in the day! There's few instances where it's fine such as when the manufacturer offers an option for that car, then you are only trying to mimic it without needing to buy the stock expensive parts. But by and large I personally don't advocate messing with the recipe the manufacturer itself didn't design in. The LC looks classy and great as is! I especially love the tail light and front finishers on the LC in chrome/satin aluminum. Well done.
What method do you think would work best for the chrome exhaust trim?
That’s something I’ve been trying to find a solution to for a while. If it’s chrome plated metal then maybe powdercoating would work. Painting could work since it’s in a spot that wouldn’t get chipped by rocks.
i’ve never tried vinyl near an exhaust tip. I considered it on my LS but figured the heat would make it peel off.
