I'm very close to making a final decision on getting a 24 LC500, and I love all these well-needed upgrades; I really hope Lexus allows the Dynamic Handling Package (DHP) to be added to the Inspiration series for next year's model, as they don't currently offer DHP in the Beskpoke nor the Inspiration models which is Massive let down.

 

Electric LC - This would be suicide.

I purchased the 2023 LC just in case Lexus catches the FAKE Green wave of electric. There is a reason only 3rd world countries are allowed to mine lithium. 15 tons of carbon per 1 ton of lithium. And that is only step one of the entire tree hating process.

I think you took away the root of my point exactly - they ran with an overblown criticism, and sacrificed the interior design of their car most focused on exceptional execution of design. It's not updating it in and of itself that bothers me, but rather that they did it in a very cheap looking way that does nothing for the car.
I'm in agreement with you on Toyota Connected - it's not great. It has the "flash" of a vibrant screen, but that's it - I feel like it will age poorly, as with all of these tablet-focused interiors that are out right now. Ironically, in my opinion, Mazda is leading the market in terms of a system that looks good and is minimally distracting (both in terms of design and UI execution). I think Toyota could have learned a lot from their partnership with Mazda there - the current 3 interior is really handsome.

To me, it feels like they rushed a tech update and half-assed something on their halo car that was already a rolling showcase of their design prowess, inside and out. In my opinion, sometimes it's better to leave something alone rather than compromise it unnecessarily. Lexus has been fine tuning the dynamics of the car over the years - that's all it really needed. Hell - "little" Nissan did a comprehensive GT-R interior update back in 2019 while Lexus just slapped a screen on the dash of the LC in a haphazard way...and that's sad.

 

I'm not sure how else you'd propose them to better integrate a touch display. There's only so many ways you can do it. I think it looks fine. I'm just happy I won't have to endure any more "the car is perfect except this outdated infotainment system with the trackpad" reviews.

 

Even if they pulled the entire panel forward and made the screen flush with the glass, it would have looked better - still not ideal, but at least it wouldn't look like they slapped a tablet with 2" borders on top of the dash, and gave you ​​​​​a sheet of blank leather-wrapped plastic instead of the deco illumination panel. But that would have required investment in a new upper dash, and I guess they went the cheap route - I don't understand why.

As for what reviewers say - who cares? They have no bearing on anything minus a confirmation bias. It's cool to see things new coming to market, but I always judge criticisms for myself - to stay on topic, the old remote touch interface is a prime example of that.

 

they could have kept the existing screen. i mean come on, 10inch vs 12inch, big whoop. Update the software if you have to, but if they kept the screen it would look like a much more cohesive design.

I guess the only reason is because its not that 'reachable' and thus ergonomically its more challenging. But to lose the clock and the nice LLLLLLL pattern on the passenger side (the art piece basically) is a serious blow to aesthetics.

 

It's not just that the touchscreen looks tacked on and an afterthought. It's also that the new touchscreen UX Lexus is using is universally derided as clunky and subpar.

Best would have been to integrate a touchscreen while also keeping physical menu buttons...and hire UX designers who know how to design a good system?

 

Just heard from my local dealer. Colors seem to keep the cloudburst (which was in 2023) amd doesn't have the smokey granite (from 2022). Also no bespoke orders (at least in canada). And not really too much other info. Nothing about ultimate edition. Says it'll be a year to get delivery.
