Default 2006 IS350 for 2011 Mustang GT Auto

Hello,

Can get great deals right now for leftover 2011 Mustang GT's. 5.0L, 412hp for under $30k.

Just wondering if anyone would consider such a swap? Have had the 2006 IS350 for awhile now and am considering trading it in for a 2011 GT auto transmission as the new manual transmission (Getrag MT82) seems to be having major issues.

Test drove both the Mustang auto and manual versions and compared to the IS350, I would say that the Mustang handles better overall. IS350 has front and rear FSport sways, stock otherwise.

I thought about this briefly when the new 2011 mustangs came out with the significantly improved performance...

then I looked at how badly the car depreciates compared to my IS and stopped thinking about it.
(plus, while the mustang interior is a lot nicer than say an older Ford, it's still not in the same class as the Lexus... though the telematics are a generation or two better)

Might not be as bad getting a leftover 11, and your 06 has a couple more years depreciation on it than my IS, so the math might not look as ugly to you... (I was seeing 1 year old 2010 models selling for significantly less than the book value of my 3+ year old IS)

Two totally different rides.

the Stang is comparable to Camaro and 370Z. it is probably a better buy than either. I drove and was very impressed.

the big question is whether you want a luxury car or a sports car....

Very interesting post, haven't seen these two compared on CL. I considered the 2011 5.0, but unfortunately it was out of my price range at the time. I did drive it though, and it was a blast. Above poster is right though, there's diametrically different cars. The GT I drove had leather and other luxury touches, but in no way felt like a luxury car. I much preferred the Lexus interior and ride to the Mustang, though I wouldn't rule it out as a future car. The 412 HP/ 18/26 mpg is very appealing. I also didn't want to buy into the first year of new powertrains as their reliability and ability to hold value weren't quite proven.

I think that's a great choice to be swapping into! The new 5.0 is making the mustang line-up better and better. I'd do it myself if I was ready to give up my luxury content and two extra doors. I actually went from an 04 mustang to my IS350 for the extra doors, but I love the raw power, and it is relatively a good DD compared to other sport/muscle cars. It's your choice in the end. GL!!! (you can't go wrong either way IMO)

I wouldn't do it. Why get a GT in auto?? Granted the manual has issues but I would wait until next couple model years and wait for them to resolve the issue.

I disagree that the Mustang handles well, it handles like crap around turns in my opinion compared to other cars in its class. But it is a fast car, and it's not too expensive either. The interior on the newest model is much better than in the past as well. But like someone else mentioned, it depreciates fast. The newer ones are much more reliable though, Ford seems to be on top of its game now, but i still can't justify the purchase based on depreciation and the way the car handles (to me) lol.

i think american cars only look good, but their quality is not nearly as good as japanese or german automobiles. with that said, no i would not trade a lexus for a ford.

If you tired of your lexus a 5.0 is the way to go.... I considered getting one. I can really get over the way the rear of the car looks though... doesent say muscle car to me... I would probably get use to it eventually... I say get it! I'm a muscle car guy on the inside. I'm jus lookin for that Luxury right now that you don't get in a mustang so I have what I have. GL with your choice.

I went from a Mustang GT to my IS350. They are two different cars and I'm happy with my Lexus but I wouldn't rule out owning another Stang. An automatic Stang would be out of the question. I miss the manual tranny most.

Lexus is known for their luxury. You lose all of that when you get into a 'stang.
But hey, some people are looking for pure power where the cost of building the car front to back is weighed more heavily on the power side, than the luxury/comfort side.

You have no idea what you are talking about. The new Stang handles better than a 2011 M3. Gets better gas mileage and cost only half as much as the M3.

2011 BMW M3 / 2011 Mustang GT

I haven't driven a 2011 M3 to compare, but that's definitely interesting. Having driven a Camaro SS and a 350Z, i'd still rather have those over the new stang though.

If you can get a 2011' 5.0 for 30k or under then go for it! cause "I would" if I had an 06' 350.
