Default Noise at start up, Part 2

I had the TSB performed on my IS for the metallic noise at start up last June. All was well until the past few weeks when it came back.

I took it back in to the dealer and they couldn't reproduce the noise so I told them that I would take a video of it.

I e-mailed this to my SA so we'll see what she says. I'll keep y'all updated.

How often does your car make this noise? Mine seems to only make it maybe once a month or so at the most. The last time I heard this noise was when I did my oil change. I took the car for a drive after the oil change and then let the car sit for a few hours and when I restarted...I got the noise. I thought for sure if I was going to reproduce the noise it would have happened prior to the initial startup after refilling the oil. I'm not going to worry about it, but if it were more frequent I'd be in the shop.

Hey James. It does it about every ~4th start or so. Sometimes its more subtle than that though. The noise in the vid is about as loud as it gets.

Al, what did they do last june? Did they replace the cams and cam gears?

I am already upset that they have to pull apart the top of my motor after 10K miles... I am really sad to hear that the noise came back.

I hear the noise mostly when my car is on a slight incline(with the nose pointing up)... and its cooler out. IE 70 degrees or less.

My car also did this after the last oil change. It did it when I first started the car after draining and refilling oil (to back the car off the ramps), and then again a few minutes later when I started it to bring the used oil to Wal-Mart. That was three weeks ago, and it hasn't done it since.

My car makes a similar noise to that at start up, but not nearly as loud as that. Then again, I'm always sitting in the car with all the windows up. Maybe I'll pop the hood and roll then windows down, then listen for it.

I have the same exact problem...I just need to put back my stock intake before I take it in, that way they dont try and blame it on the K&N

Wow, that sounds bad. It sounded like it also went away? Hopefully they'll take your video as proof of it and fix whatever it is that's causing it.

Mine did it again this morning after not hearing it for a very long time. It sounds like its just something slightly wrong with the push start ignition. My guess is it has something to do with the heat because mine didn't do it all summer, but this morning the windows were frosted over and it happened.

On the work order, it states that they replaced the vvti actuators with updated ones.
