In some warrantee coverage situations the dealer will ask you to show proof of regular maintenance such as oil changes, etc. --- what if you're changing the oil yourself?

Would showing them receipts for oil and filters suffice? Could a dealer deny warrantee coverage because you changed your own oil?

No, they can't. Taken directly from the owners manual supplement, page 25 under the heading "Maintenance", which obviously no one here has bothered to read a word of:

You are responsible for performance of the required maintenance indicated in the Owners Manual and this supplement. Lexus will not deny a warranty claim solely because you do not have records to show that you maintained your vehicle. However, any failure or noncompliance caused by lack of maintenance is not covered by this warranty.

When maintenance and repairs are paid for by you, then services may be performed by you or by any automotive service provider you choose. Lexus will not deny a warranty claim solely because you use a service provider other than a Lexus dealership for maintenance and repairs.

Your first oil change should be a complimentary one from Lexus, mine was. I also bought the pre-paid maintenance plan from them so both of my IS250's are covered thru 60K. Just remember that they are minor/major maintenance items as your milage increases, the biggest one at 60K if I remember correctly.
Check the manual or ask the dealer, also they have 10% off coupons that you can print online for oil changes.
Hope this helps.

I just called to find out if my dealer offered that prepaid maintenance option, they said no. Where did you get that service plan and is it dealer specific or is it from Lexus?

Thanks,

-Brian

When I purchased my car thru the Lexus of Pleasanton which is part of the Hendrick Automotive Group they offered it to me so I bought it. It's called the Hendrick maintenance care
I think its dealer specific @ 5K intervals.

Default Has to be the easiest oil change

This thing is every bit as easy as chnging the oil in a Dodge Ram. Except you have to put the IS350 in the air a little. very easy. Oil filters I bought a pack of 10, Genuine Toyota, for about $4.89 each.
The oil is expensive, Valvoline syntec $4.67 a quart, you need 6.6 quarts.
Canister type, what is old is new again. Very nice, 2750 miles, drains real easy, no mess, nothing in the way. sent a sample off to get analyzed. If its this easy, I might keep it on a < 4k OCS.
Keep all reciepts Boys & Girls.
Got some crazy letter the other day from my dealer. Please bring the car in for a 4 month 4k mile check up. I don't think so. I'll take them up on the complementary change at 5k or so.
Its doing just fine thank you very much new filter on the left

Three screws hold the little door in place.

Default You can do it !

$4.89 for the filter
$32.83 for seven quarts of Valvoline Syntec
The satisfaction knowing that nothing was cross threaded and the job was done right.
priceless

Default Slide?

They're 2' x 10' s. How is it going to slide?
Solid, long, lay flat on the ground, car rolls easily up on them. Car is in park. I'm not removing the transmission or wrenching hard on it.
It ain't going anywhere. No jack anywhere in the area for the Osha cronies.
What do you call nice ramps? plastic ones that my neighbor used to drive over the end because they're so steep, or the metal ones that slide on concrete or drive themselves into the ground? Thats OK. I 'll keep my flat ones that are about five feet long and are about 15 years old. But I really do appreciate the concern.
What color was your IS 350?

What's it cost at Lexus, 50 bucks? Also, did they do it while you waited? Loaner car if you had to drop off?
