Wheel Offset ?
hey whats up guys!
Im new here and you guys are probably tired of hearin that so ima just ask my noob question. Im planning on buyin these rims but I dont know what offset to pick. The wheels are 17x7 5x114.3 +38 offset or +45 offset I know both should work and I know 17s are whack, everybody goin with 18s or 19s but i just need to get something im stuck with these 16s. Its between the +38 with 215/45/17 tires or +45 with 205/40/17 tires. Which set would yall pick?

o im just tryin to make it look proper, make everything function right. like someone said +38s might rub and i really dont understand the offset thing. like i look at these pictures to tell the offset and charts and all and i just dont get it. hey call me dumb but maybe its just summer time and i just shut down my brain in the summer time. no school nah mean. but yeah you sayin the 38s will align with the fender more. cause i was just about to go with the 45s but also people sayin the tires comin with it are too small. hit me back up thanks man

stock 17x7 IS300 rims have a +50mm offset, so they sit more inside the wheel well. if you add 12mm spacer, it would have a +38mm offset. This means the actually alloy wheel will sit closer to the fender, giving it a flush look.
The +45 offset is barely discernible from the stock wheels and the rubber is too small. It would tick off more miles that what you're actually driving.
if the wheels are 17x8, you want at least +40 offset, no less.

For non-staggered set (all 4 rims have same size and offset):
17x7 +38 flusher look and should not need any fender work.
17x7 +45 sunk in look, almost like stock
17x8 +40 is lowest offset you want on 8 inch wide rim, and no fender work.
Stock tire size for 17 inch rims are 215/45/17.

sorry, i know its a old topic but i was just wondering.. what if u have flushed rims and u have. ALOT of weight in your car.. will it hit the fenders? i was planning to get 17x7 38 offset.

ok..so this whole thread is about 17" wheels...how bout if i wanted to put 20"x8" would i have to do anything to the fenders? my car is stock rightnow, not lowered or nothing and am not planin on lowering it. i just wanna put some 20s on it. thanks
20's look stupid on an IS.
If you get a 20x8 +40 to +50 offset it will be fine. As long as you run like a 225/30/20. Or whatever is comparable to the OD of stock tires.
