Default Factory intake cover modification

Wondering if anyone has attempted to remove the cloth cover and surrounding on the top side of the air filter cover on their ISF? I have a k&n filter now but it seems like the top cover is restricting half of the air flow?

K & N intake requires you to remove the entire stock air box.

OP didn't say he had a K&N intake he said he has a K&N filter:

https://www.knfilters.com/air-filters/lexus/is-f

And Yes - folks have removed the filtering material from the top intake cover. I did it before I replaced it with a Takeda intake.

Forgot to mention it was a k&n drop in filter.

Is there a difference when you remove the white material? Noise difference? Slight noise difference?

I’m curious why you run an aftermarket intake? The oem one is very good.

I know the consensus is that a few ponies are lost with an aftermarket intake, but I like the sound.

I am NOT a fan at all of the K&N and/or oiled drop in filter.. It requires additional maintenance and for many a CEL down the road when the oil particles attach themselves to the MAF sensor element.. which then also requires cleaning..

Also I would leave the Carbon Filter attached to the lid as is.. Over a decade ago members measured a HP loss when removed…

The filter is critical to ensuring any hydrocarbons in the intake are absorbed instead of released to atmosphere.
