Wanting to say hello to the vets here and those just coming around in this forum, I’ve been afk for a bit and I’m coming back to F tuning/ racing.
Marking the day as the second is350 diff has arrived and it’s going into the F. Shortly here its under the knife for track purposes in preparation for 2022 season. I’ve also invested into a membership to Villains sport land in Walla Walla Washington and will be going to more local events at evergreen speedway. It’s nice to be back on here again, I’ve got a bit of work to do and especially with documenting the processes during the rest of this build here and ig if you use it. Open drift at evergreen speedway 4-18-2021
I had one long ago when I bought my F, it’s mostly documented on here but I will be going through a segmented build process. I previously did some drifting, drag and autocross events with it. Without the governor bypassed it is limited to 125 mph with the gear ratio change, but at the top of 3rd at the end of a 1/4 mile it’s perfect. For drifting it is easier on the car with this much weight (mine is just above 3600lbs right now even with the sunroof), the diff will get a 2 way setup os giken lsd unit as my previous version was a giken built diff for a drift team but I run my own shop from home and can tackle that in no time flat on these pumpkins
Here is what is going to be disassembled and built for the F, it will end up being a 2013 6.8 liter stroker 3UR mated to a 5 speed transmission with gearing in favor for the is350 diff.
The TRD / Magnuson supercharger for the 3ur definately doesn’t hurt. I’m just curious if it has the same tuning restrictions. We haven’t seen a heavily built 2ur simply because there isn’t really enough market support and options, and tuning support just isn’t there. To my knowledge, there isn’t even a stand-alone available for the 2ur. I hope the same restrictions don’t apply to the 3ur.
Jt2ma71- it’s in the rhd 92 track car, thing is a beast with a 4.30 2 way setup giken diff btw!
The rest- It will see a Link ecu as I have a good connection with the company and a remarkable tuner for it. My other tuner recently passed away this last Tuesday, Robert Wantanabe of Drift Office in Kent Washington.
The engine platform is proven in stock or trd modded form, the aftermarket support is coming around and is needing to get out on the track to really see it perform or not the ways Toyota engines have that I have built and been around (mostly 7M, JZ and UZ platforms). Time will tell, this particular build will not be like stock as the F is a one of a kind so it will be minded like wise and get a full built treatment resulting in 6.8 liters of displacement and will be running the Eaton harrop charger as it is a larger capacity charger. Direct injection capability is not the issue with a stand-alone ecu, most systems won’t have it though and this engine doesn’t use it either way.
The specifics on the transmission are not worked out yet on paper but it will be a 5 speed unit like in nascar basically. I have spoken with a couple solo builders and one fellow company here about their work and thoughts but the time for this type of development into a small market is limited for sure.
