Default Ridiculous pothole

Do I have any recourse for an absurdly-large pothole that significantly damaged a wheel? Onramp, behind another car going 40-50, just before merging into the slow lane....pretty sure I need to get this fixed somehow or replace the rim altogether. Should I bother with Caltrans or CHP or the city or something or will they tell me tough s*(t? Insurance? Or do I have to just wear the cost?
TIA

There is a process for filing a claim with Caltrans:
https://dot.ca.gov/online-services/submit-damage-claim
Photos can be attached.

I have never filed against Caltrans but have filed a claim with my insurance company for a pothole-damaged wheel, it is a simple process.

Thanks, guys for the replies.

Anybody know of a good place in SoCal that can repair/refinish/etc this thing?

Also wondering how likely it is that something with the suspension was damaged, even though there were no steering/braking/vibration issues. I guess I should bring it to the stealership Monday morning and have them check it out.

Unlikely the suspension is damaged even with a blow like that, but more than likely the corners of the sunroof are now bent. AMHIK. I got this repaired but it wasn't inexpensive at all. Too much chassis flex in this car when you hit something hard like that.

Oh crap, that doesn't look good.
Weld issues on certain batches causing excessive body flex!!!

EDIT; I just checked my car, there's no dents. I've driven over some pretty rough roads, large pot holes and large impacting bumps.

Luckily no dents or bends I can see.

In other news, my trunk button is melted and leaves a glorious black residue if I touch it :-).

I need to file some claims for other wheels as well. **** cali pot holes

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...l#post10915895

According to this someone towards page 6/7 mentions details that suggest most common amongst is250 AWD. Does this affect ISF and is350 as well?

From what I quickly read, yes for early model ISF and a 2012 IS350

Jesus man this is disappointing

- Frame twist/freak out/dent slap (went to check mine, seems free of defects -knock on wood-
- valley plate leak
-melting dash
- trunk button melt (minor) above 3 (major)

You can twist any frame or total any care on the right pothole. I know someone that literally bent their frame on a pothole in a dodge neon.

The Valley plate leak does suck, but it’s not the end of the world.

Everybody gets new upgraded dashes.

The trunk button is a minor thing. All cars need maintenance. It’s just life.

I always drive around with Waze running on my phone. "Object on road ahead", "hazard reported ahead", "police reported ahead". Pure gold.

Try these guys: https://edkcustomwheels.com/

If this was the worse pothole I had the chance of hitting in a single mile I'd be happy lol!
I sure hope you find a good resolution, but man, don't take a trip to South Louisiana!!!
