Default Low Coolant affects a/c compressor?

This has happened twice already. My car drops idle and compressor kicks off while ac is running then cycles back on in a few minutes. No cold air for that time its off

Ive noticed the coolant low and topped it off. Doing that will fix my ac problem.

My question is, are they related? Is this something else that needs fixing?

Ive heard about the vally plate leaks but I have not checked mine out yet if it is. I haven't looked into how to check it out. I just notice the reservoir low. I add coolant and check it the next day and its low again

What do you mean by the compressor kicks off? The compressor never shuts off, it just goes to a minimum setting. There is no clutch at all. Are you saying the HVAC control shows A/C off?

When was the last time you topped off the R-134a? That's the most likely root cause of A/C issues.

I guess what I’m saying is it will keep blowing but it will not cool. I hear the engine idle lower.
Then a few minutes later it idles up and begins cooling again

I'd bet on it. There's a high/low switch in the freon circuit that will put the compressor in a minimum state (since it doesn't have a clutch) and it won't kick back on until the pressure rises enough. Most likely situation is the refrigerant is right on the borderline of too low, and as soon as the swash plate gets set to a high enough setting, the low pressure detection kicks in and shuts the process down.

Sounds like you are low refrigerant. Coolant and cold ac are not really relater. Now it will affect your heating.
