Default A closer look at Lexus ISF engine

Came across this article. It's a little old from last year, but has some interesting information for those who would like to find out more about the ISF engine.

It always makes me chuckle when I read what they said about the Gen 1 2UR-GSE. They kept the block for Gen 2, and nothing else. They added 55 hp by rethinking the crank, rods, pistons, cylinder heads and tuning. I still think it would be fun to put a Gen 2 engine in an IS F. Just not sure how much pain it would be to integrate with all the other systems.

I thought of this as well. The fuel system is much more capable in the gen 2. Lots of benefits in the swap.

I’ve been long away but I’ve still got my car, I’ve collected a ‘13 5.7 that’s been a lot on my mind to swap in to the F, I’ve got the corresponding year wiring manuals to make sense of most of it.

Tundras have a 5.7 as do some Lexus GX models.

Are you thinking of using it in stock trim, or planning to do something to get more from it?

FWIW, my buddy had a Tundra and we both experienced unintended acceleration with it. The circumstances where this happened were pretty specific, but it was enough that he got tired of it and sold it. Maybe the '13s have this sorted out. His was an '09.

It’s going to be built if i drop it in, likely just a pipe dream but over time I’ve happen to acquire the main piece for a very reasonable price. I’d like to see almost 700hp from it before it goes in

I have never seen an engine swapped ISF before. I have seen an ISF drivetrain in other cars.

A crowd by the name of SRD developments and Whifbitz in the UK have swapped out the 8-speed auto into a MKIV Supra.

SRD's website isn't offering the conversion. That would actually make me want to keep my Supra longer. Their test mule got wrecked pretty badly.

Youd rather have a 2UR instead of a 2JZ in your supra?
