Default Powder coated calipers, doesn’t require a core up front

Anyone know of a company that refurbish and refinish calipers and accepts customer set as a core reimbursement?
,

its cheaper that way, used calipers are expensive, forget brand new, and I would be able to still use my car while the job is being done, yes I am taking into account for the shipping taxes(where applicable) and labor making the cost close to or a bit more than a used set. Looking for a specific color that’s not common, so finding a used set in the color would be near impossible

You can swap in some cheap junkyard IS250 brakes as a temporary solution.

The core charge would have to be fairly high as these calipers are not cheap, nor easy to find. Where are you located? I have a full set that is off the car and could use a refinish but I haven't gotten around to sending them out. Could try to work something out if you're local - i'm in Northern California.

FYI, I remember seeing a post on this board or facebook about powdercoating IS-F brakes and issues with the bolts backing out...might want to look into this before you do it.

Its not related to just isf oems but any aluminum caliper, safest bet is usually helicoils, I’ve done that to a few of the brembos.

100% agree that it’s not cheap, and also not likely for such a service, hence me not wanting to buy another set, and no I’m contracted out in japan, and travel a ton for work, leaving the car at paid parking. If it’s off the road I’m not getting places without tons of cab fare or hoping my wife isn’t stuck at work for rides; just went through that after my last car broke for good.

Im probably going to just have to pick up a set, they don’t need to work since they’ll need rebuilt after disassembly and coating anyway. Or hope someone parts out or has a customer who didn’t pay, but I think that only happens with subie forums 🤦🏻*♂️ Jokes aside, it’s not super pressing, just wanted to put some flare to the styling

But depending on what ya want for em, apo/FPO/dpo shipping is cheap enough, if it’s under the size and weight limits. I’ve sent sti calipers out of here a few times from part outs, or just dumping off spare parts.

Why not have the calipers wrapped? 1 day turn around, and they dont even need to come off the car.

Considered it, wraps don’t last long here, and I still would need off the car since the original paint and clear is starting to peel bubble etc. probably just going to wind up buying a set to send off.

I have had a local body shop paint my calipers three times on my cars. Always comes out great and was $250-300. Three years later the calipers look like new still. Powder coating I would not recommend because the few friends I have had to get it done had to get rebuild kits and some had squeaky issues after plus the downtime..

Find a local shop and spend some money on an Uber, The turnaround time was always two days max for me.

Good suggestion, I can paint no issue, wouldn’t need a shop to go that route, still would require too much down time unless I did one pair at a time, as far as work and me being in Okinawa, if a shop isn’t packed from all the kids taking their 25 year old cars back to good ol conus, murica to lose money, then the quality of the work is crap( and Okinawa is very small so the top tier folks are EXPENSIVE) monopoly exists here

when i say expensive i mean more ludacris than novel or Lems. I’d have to see what time and dates I’d have off and also, Okinawa - no uber. No Lyft. Any volunteer service is tied up for the binder drinking active duty kids, to be young again.... very little options for me here, BUT the pay and the safety of the island out weigh lack of custom resources. There’s always contingencies though, I appreciate everyone’s input.

The issue is the cost. Most coaters don’t wanna pony up the initial cost of buying up our spendy calipers as cores.

I sent mine to Velocity Powdercoating in California while the wife and I were on vaca in Maui. They were on my porch when we got back and have been driving on them for 6+ months without any issues.

Came out great too.

They sure did, fantastic color choice. And yes I know the cost is pretty steep, had to ask and see for sure

Those look great! Was there not any shops locally that could do it or was shipping it out not too bad price wise?

Didn’t trust the local coaters with disassembly and rebuild of the thing that stops my car haha. I followed Velocity on Instagram, he had a sale, and had done numerous sets of Brembos. So felt confident sending them my calipers.

Shipping wasn’t terrible. Worth the peace of mind.
