I have a quick question regarding our exhaust system. Why doesn't the oem pipe nor the after market pipes made for our vehicle require a flex pipe? I know the OEM has the donut gasket and spring bolts combo but most aftermarket ones seem to just mate up flange to flange.
I am guessing it is because because the v8 motor sits longitudinally in-line with the exhaust. When you hit the gas the motor will torque in line with the exhaust. Exhausts that use flex couplers typically mate with horizontally situated motors (mostly front wheel drive cars). When those motors flex that are flexing 90 degrees to the exhaust which would cause much more force on the exhaust joints if there was no flex pipe coupling.
I don't think i have ever seen flex coupling on any in-line motor.
Thanks for the reply. From the research I did, a particular site said the flex pipe is more necessary for fwd and awd vehicles but never really explained why.
