Default Most miles before valley coolant leak?

Just wondering how common this issue is and around how many miles it occurs. It seems around 50k miles is the common mileage. I’m looking at buying a car that has 84k miles and the gasket hasn’t been replaced. I’m just trying to gauge how much time I may have before this becomes an issue. Thanks.

That’s impossible to answer. Mine did it in like 20k... others probably 100 plus and everywhere in between.

Yeah I realize that. I guess I’ll just have to pay for the repair when it comes. Did the class action ever go through? Also, I’ve been looking for a DIY and I haven’t been able to find one. Maybe I’ll just do it myself and make a DIY.

I have 166k miles on mine. No leak. It doesn't happen to all cars.

Wonder if your car was made during the work week while all the ones that have issues were made on Friday...

Try looking at the car's history on lexusdrivers.com perhaps it may have been fixed? Also, if the car has always been serviced at Lexus and you continue to do so, Lexus corporate may be kind enough to help you with the cost. I've seen on avg 25-50%, and in my and another guy's case just recently they covered nearly 100%.

I have an 08 with 89k and at 87k in January I got the leak. Tbh I probably had a very minor leak last year year also when I still had extended warranty and it had low coolant but Lexus dealer twice could not find the issue. It only showed itself in the cold weather when I realized my heat would go cold at idle. Shop did pressure test and dealer took apart the intake and did pressure test also and finally found it. Due to my car being out of warranty, but always serviced at Lexus(just oil changes mainly, I do major work like brakes/spark plugs/fluids elsewhere) they covered the entire repair's labor and most of the cost. Instead of paying $1800 plus fee for estimated $200-400 for tranny fluid swap, I paid $480 for everything but I had to push corporate over and over while they pretended my issue was the first they'd heard about. I also drive about 25k a year rain/snow/shine/autox etc. Good luck!

It's hard to say. Neither my '09 with 172k or my current '10 with 132k have had it happen.
