Default Starting After Winter Storage

Hey everyone,

My F has been sitting for about 3 months and with some nice weather inbound, I would love to take her out for a spin. What is the best way to ensure the engine reaches optimal lubrication and builds some oil pressure prior to firing up? I looked through the owner's manual for a fuel pump fuse but it seems more complicated than on the LS400 I had. I also have a feeling this wouldn't do the trick - I assume there might be enough fuel in the system for it to fire up.

Cheers

Due to the complexity of removing the plugs this might not be an option, but you could change the oil and remove the plugs. Turn the engine over a few times to allow lubrication and then reinstall/replace the plugs.. I've only done this on older vehicles, so again might not be what you are looking for

My F usually sits away for 7 months. If i were to see any good day, I would fire it up, and drive it for at least 15-20 mins and bring it back afterwards.

A pressurized pre-luber is the best way to ensure the engine builds some oil pressure prior to firing.

I installed one back in the day on my fiesta. It was called an accusump iirc.

i Park cars for 5-6 months over winter, just start it up modern cars are designed to lubricte themselves on start up. I wouldn’t recommend pulling plugs as someone else mentioned. With no spark the fuel will still go into the combustion chamber and wash the cylinders down.

if you have techstream you can put it into compression test mode, and it won't start or deliver fuel, it will just turn over for as long as you hold the start button.

just get in and start the car. let the cold start cycle finish and drive it gently until the engine oil temperature shows normal on the gauge. 3 months is not that long so there's no need to prime anything.

LOL, I actually didn't end up taking it out. Missed the opportunity and now snow has returned for at least another week or two. Have to wait for all the salt to wash away again...

LOL!! You might still want to start it and let it warm to operating temp.

Started my car after 4 months of winter storage. Have it plugged in to a battery tender. The only thing that got me a little worried was the rock hard brake pedal when I went to start it up...turned over smooth, and brake pedal went back to normal operation after pressing the brakes a few times

LOL, I'm in the same boat. A warm day will tempt me but then the next the temp plunges below freezing again. Anything below 45F and my summer only tires are worthless. Waiting patiently...

My car is stored from November to roughly the end of April.. I've never had any issues with starting the car up in the spring.. My car is also on a trickle charger to keep the battery juiced. I usually hit the start button twice, let all the lights come on and then fire it up.. It usually takes a few cranks before it fires up - one time it even misfired and threw a check engine light. However it sorted itself out and once the car was up to temp it was fine.. check engine light went out in a day
