power steering issue

I was dealing with the same issue for over a year. It would happen most often when turning or going over rough roads. Long story short, Lexus dealerships and their mechanics are crap. They don't know what their doing. I had to fight with them until blue in the face each time my car was in for repairs. Never buying another Lexus.
The first time my power steering went out they replaced the entire steering rack and pinion. About 7 months later the issue came back so they decided to replace the power steering ECU. About 6-7 months after that the issue occurred for a third time and the entire power steering wiring harness was replaced.
The third time this happened I got Lexus corporate involved. Call them and express you concerns. You need to talk to a Lexus Customer Satisfaction Case Manager. Use "red flag" words to get their attention like "this issue can get me killed or someone else killed", "I don't feel safe driving the vehicle", "this issue can cause a major accident". Try to record a video the next time the power steering goes out so it's not just your word against theirs; it doesn't help much but at least it's something.
Ultimately, I got Lexus corporate to send out a "Field Tech Specialist (FTS)" to my local Lexus dealership. The guy's name was Doug. The FTS got the power steering to fail by having the car running and shaking/wiggling the power steering wiring harness. There was a loose plug somewhere that wasn't making a solid connection.
Hope this helps. Best of luck.
