Smile RR-Racing Carbon Fiber Intake vs HPS

Ok now I'm torn.... I'm switching out my Takeda for the stock intake box again and trying to find the right elbow that isn't metal (my preference - heat soak, ext.)

HPS seems to be the obvious choice but then I found RR-Racings CF one all on my own. I'm really surprised that no one has mentioned it here yet... see below. Thoughts?

PS - Tom's or aFe filter?

Either intake is fine. The RR racing intake has been talked about many time and has become a popular choice in the last year. There is actually a thread regarding it about 5 threads bellow yours.

I would get the aFe filter over the Tom's. The Tom's eventually dry rot and fall apart. I have pulled them out of customers cars and thrown them in the trash after a few years of use while thinking how lucky they are that a chunk didn't get stuck in the throttle body or worse.

Fair enough. I appreciate the straight talk. I didn't know that about the Tom's.

I sold my Carson(HPS similar) in favor the the RR carbon.

I did get the AOS at the same time. My stock intake hoses to the valve covers were cracking and the intake replaces these lines which was the main reason why I switched.

It looks good in the engine bay paired up with the rest of their products.

Both are great options.

I had the HPS on mine paired with the toms filter.

contact us for pricing on either system.

What about eliminating the intake vacuum hoses with the RR Racing intake, thoughts? Does it negatively effect the PCV system? I'm already in the process of putting on a AOS btw which I feel like is where 99% of the oil is captured anyways.

Hi, while it is true that most of the oil that contaminates the intake tract of the engine is coming from the PCV, some of it also comes from the valve covers. We have been running valve covers vented to atmosphere for a long time with zero issues. Other than emission compliance, there is no reason to run valve cover breathers to the intake.

I had an HPS pipe, and swapped it out for a sikky intake pipe, they all basically do the same thing. Cant really go wrong with any of them, and I chose an AFE filter over the Toms I could've jumped on. But then again ive never been huge on foam filters anyway

I just switched to the RR Carbon fiber from JoeZ and like it better because of the breather. Mine is paired with RR's tuned intake, previously was AFE.
