Headlight trouble need suggestions
2011 isf....had one problem at first and fixed it i replaced the actual lamp connector because it was blowing fuses....its a 15 amp i believe but.didnt have one in my garage so i put a 30amp in its place and it worked fine... mind you i did replace the bulb even tho nothing was wrong with it....it worked for a month or so then eventually went out all together...figured the ballast was out so i changed it out and it worked mind you every fix i made a wire nut splice so now i have two wire nut connections on each wire... that worked for a week or so and it went to turning off the headlight every 30 secs but when i turn it on it was fine...now it wont turn back on and the drl's refuse to come on too... my question is it a resistance thing or do i simply need to replace the whole headlight which im trying to avoid unless you guus know of a cheap replacement...i desperately need input its been going on for a while
You may have a short somewhere or have a loose connection. I wouldn't put the 30 amp in. Take it out and put in the 15 for proper resistance. Otherwise you're going to risk damaging other components. You have to find the source of the issue and not bandage it with an improper fuse. I'd take it to an experienced technician to find any short or loose connection. It's hard to diagnose on a computer screen but hopefully you can find a solution soon.
Do none of the lights in the headlight work? Or just the low beam?

Check the connection of the low beam wires. I think they are the thick white and thick red wires but verify. Look for any loose connections and secure them by ensuring all connections are tight. I doubt the ballast or the bulbs would be the issue. You might have to trace back to the fuse box from the headlight assembly.

Probably not your problem, but never replace a fuse with a larger amperage fuse... ESPECIALLY one twice the amperage! Excellent way to start a fire/burn that line.
And I agree, a single bulb or ballast isn't the issue if both cut off at the same time.

yes, a wire nut is probably the worst thing you could use on a car.
fuses are "circuit protection". that 15a fuse blows to protect other components. There is a specific reason they use 15a instead of 20, 25, 30, etc... so the 15a blew because there was a high current draw on the circuit. by putting in a 30a, you leave other parts in the circuit vulnerable to damage, with no protection. So there is a good chance something else is in the circuit is now damaged.
my suggestion is to pay someone who knows what they are doing, because so far you have only caused more damage to your car. Sorry, but its the truth.
