Default Rear tyre size

Hi all, I know there’s countless tyre threads already but haven’t seen a lot of responses that address my question.

I’ll be getting tyres soon for the rears. Currently got aftermarket wheels so the rim is .5 inch wider at 9.5 vs. 9 for OEM. In light of that, when I got tyres almost 20k ago, I decided to stick to the OEM size at the time of 255/35.

Now I want to go wider and the most popular size without going extreme or lipping the guards is 275/30. Most responses I’ve read, everyone talks about how much more aggressive it looks. This part doesn’t bother me, it looks aggressive with my new rims anyway but I’m deciding whether to go this size or 265/35 (still wider than OEM but basically more rubber, taller profile.

Im Sydney (Aust) based but im sure you guys have your fair share of crappy, bumpy roads too. My car is street driven only and is my daily ride so if I barely drove it or tracked it only, id go 275/30 no problem. Issue is around the suburbs, some roads are crap and I brace myself for some bumps i go over daily so I’m worried if I go 30 profile, the car is basically riding on more rim and less tyre so I don’t want to buckle my rims.

So basically just after people’s opinions who are either running 275/30 or 265/35 on 19 inch rims, daily rides as to what they find bearable on our roads. Is anyone running on 275/30 and find the ride ok over some of our crappy roads? Or is the 275/30 ride so simiar to the OEM 35 profile that it doesnt make much difference.

With a 9.5" wheel I would go with a 285/30/19 and 255/30/19 in front (assuming you have an 8½" wheel in front. If not, 245/35/19 on an 8" wheel is fine.

With those sizes you will be maintaining the proper stagger and OD.

Flowrider definitely knows his stuff when it comes to tire sizes so I would listen to him.

Btw - it's "tire" not "tyre

good luck finding the right set up!

Cheers for the response. Yes your right i have 9.5 in the rear and 8.5 for the fronts.

Never actually considered 285 over 275 so ill check it out, thanks.

I thought 285 would mean having to lip the guards or maybe the sidewall would have that ballooned look??? Im just worried 30 profile all round on suburban streets would be a horrible ride. Dont get me wrong, i know its an ISF not Camry so i dont expect 100% comfort but just curious how much bumpier 30 over 35 profile tyres would be.

You should visit, exchange rates good for you guys vs our $ but dont expect to see many ISF's here. If you go up north to QLD, you'll have a better chance of spotting Kangaroos than ISF's lol. Here most V8's are Holden's 5-6Ltr, supercharged and plenty of C63's around.

Never feel a difference between oem and 275/30 in the rear. Still feel bad on crappy roads just more grip and way more tramlining. Stock wheel seems strong i didn't bent a wheel yet even in quebec roads. 2nd set in the rear 275/30 i wouldn't go back to is350 size 😉

285/30 would not produce tire bulge on a 9½" wide wheel. the 285/30/19 has an OD of 25.8" vs the stock 255/35/19 OD of 26.0" - Virtually no difference from what you now have.

If only Michelin made a 285/30/19 in a PSS or PS4...

I have S-04s on my Supra. Nobody makes a decent performance street tire in 17" anymore except Bridgestone. They are good street tires for sure.

Hey ISF5L my car is running 235/ 40/ 19 front 275 / 35/ 19 rear Potenza REO50A no rubbing not even close, I am going to replace the front shortly with 245/35/19 Adrenalin re003 good price of eBay if your in Sydney ST George tyres are great. The profile ratio doesn't change as the TYRE gets wider eg 225/45/19 is almost the same as 235/40/19, so the wider you go the profile stays the same, (rolling diameter hope this makes sense ) google it good luck.

You should also check your wheel offsets. I tried 285 on RCF wheels and I was getting slight rubbing whenever I hit uneven pavement. I have 275 on stock ISF 2012 wheels with no issues.

Cheers mate, some said 275/35 didnt look right vs 30 profile. I know you drive yours alot like me, daily ride and you are on the Sydney roads like me. Im just worried 30 profile for the rears regardless of width will be too thin, bumpy etc, thats my main worry. Touch bumpy on my OEM 35 profile now so wasnt sure how much difference that 5mm makes.

Seen St George, yep they are good on prices. Usually go Tempe but seen Taleb have a few specials. Think they are all owned by the same family anyway lol
