Default Tapping Power in the rear/trunk

Hi All

I need to tap into a 12V power source near the rear/trunk when the engine/ect power is on for a vacuum pump to manage 2 butterfly valves that will be welded onto a my borla exhaust catback muffler outlets.

I currently have 12V power running directly from the battery to JL XD600 amp in the trunk, I don't want to use this source because of the potential parasitic power when I don't have the engine on. Anyone have an idea what I should exactly tap?

Thanks

Brake lights or tail lights?, if you do you might have to go up on the fuse.

Those lines are constant 12v as well (can get power without the ignition being turned on) which isn't what he needs.

OP, i would just use the REM wire out of your JL amp. Tap into that wire. If it's installed correctly, it only receives power when the switch is on.

I have been looking for this too - for my varex exhaust.

Here is a photo of the stock amp - any way to pull power from here?

I tapped into the ML amp to power the ECV on my Meisterschaft exhaust. It's the plug closest to the rear of the car. I believe it was the orange wire for my 2008 but the wires differ by year. I found the info on this site via a search.

Here's a link with info on the 2010 ML system that I saved for when I finally install my sub.

why not run a relay and dedicated power wire? If you already have a power wire for the amp, tap that for constant and an ignition on from the amp.

Although I doubt there will be any draw from the butterfly valve, I think he is looking for switched power (like I am)..not a constant on feed.

EDIT just reread your comment about the switch.

I was not looking for a constant feed only engine/ect power. I think I found the solution..

The JL XD600 amp has 12V (power from the battery, I could tap into this for constant power), Ground, Remote connectors.

The Remote is used to power turn on/off the amp based on the 12V Trigger, my installer tapped into one of the power wire from the ML amp (don't know which one). I am probably going to tap this remote wire.

I did some testing, the vacuum pump draws 1.3 amp when activated (it runs for about 5-10 seconds), after the activation is done, it draws 0.5 amp (not acceptable) . When turned off, it draws 0.006 amp (acceptable).

I was going to do this too. So I can have RR Racing Bazooka sound on the fly.
Are you welding the butterflies onto a different pipe routing before the mufflers or have a bypass right through the muffler and have the butterflies on the tips(more expensive)?

I will be putting on the tips.. have not done it yet.. probably will be done in a week.

Will have to test fit.. The vacuum and valves came from different companies in China.. the quality seems good.. and the price were good.

Anyone has PPE Dual Exhaust manual pdf handy (I can't find it anywhere on the web), I am trying to find the best way of getting the wiring/hose into the trunk, I was thinking of using the air pressure flap in the rear but prefer a grommet somewhere in the rear.

^^^^I have PPEs dual mode exhaust. It does not tap into the trunk for power.

I think he referring to getting the wires from the exhaust into the cabin, I used one of the the air pressure flaps to bring in the wire - I get a slight exhaust odor in the cabin under hard acceleration - I assume it is because of the flap but not sure..

^^ 100% correct. If anyone got a solution, please post.. the air pressure flaps would sux because of the exhaust smell, another potential solution is to drill a hole and put a rubber grommet on it.

Wanted to update this in case anyone else needs to get power to trunk.

I found the power at amp but it did not supply enough juice to power the x-force motors. Every time I hit the button the radio would mute and the receiver lights would blink but not power the valves.

I decided to tap off of the armrest cig lighter and ran the wire under the carpet, under the rear center console and into trunk.

Easy to do you just need to:
remove rear ashtray (held with clips)
remove rear console (held with clips)
remove interior trim in trunk

With ashtray out you can access the power going to lighter (tap into it here)
I used a wire snake to pull cables under rug between armrest and rear console. I then went into trunk through a small access hole just below the trunk pass through . From there I placed the receiver and the wiring under the spare tire area.

Works great and completely descreet.
