Default Replica Toms Carbon Fiber Rear Diffuser

I looked into buying a Toms rear diffuser a while back but was turned off by the $1200 price tag. I recently found this guy on eBay who sells replicas made of CF for $600 delivered, and these are the pics he sent me of the diffuser he has ready to ship right now. I definitely see some places where the CF is wavy or uneven. What do you guys think, does this look like it's worth $600? I haven't seen a Toms diffuser in person to be able to compare, but I've read some comments on here saying that they aren't perfect either. Just wanted to get some feedback from those who have a Toms (or other) carbon fiber diffuser.

Those are the sort of imperfections that will only ever be noticed by you and nobody else, seems like a good price if it won't bug the hell out of you.

Yeah, the carbon weave is a bit wavy, but for 600 bucks shipped.

Ultimately, the quality is determined by the way it fits.

The only areas that really stand out to me are around the exhaust tips, especially the drivers side. As for fitment, he says it was modeled directly after the Tom's diffuser so hopefully fitment will be good. And he did send me a pic of one installed and it looks like it fits pretty good. I already paid him for it but said I wanted to see pics of the EXACT diffuser I would be getting before he sends it, and these are what he sent me. Still deciding what I want to do. And I don't want to share the link yet until I decide to buy it and can vouch for the quality, because I dont want to plug something that ends up being a bust.

Hit up Jesse streeter. I got my Wald diffuser for less than what you saw the Toms diffuser for.

Could you post a link? I just got a Tom's rep in FRP but if I can get a rep carbon piece I'll go that route also.

I don't discriminate if one were to purchase a replica versus the authentic, and typically at meets and gatherings there will be lots of discussion about what's legit or not on one's car. That being said, money is money. Some choose to smoke, others drink, others collect watches and stuff....and then there's the dilemma of whether or not to purchase an authentic part. Seeing as how I never smoke and barely drink, I would rather save the money I earn for the authentic part.

That being said, I'm chill with these rep parts coming out of the woodwork. But what I'll never be cool with is someone passing off the replicas as the real deal. Own up to purchasing a Toms-style rear diffuser and everything is chill. But call it an authentic Toms, and there will be some people who will discredit that person immediately. Cost will always be a factor, and the saying "you get what you pay for" is true to some degree. If someone just wants a nice piece to put on their car, then yes, it'll look decent. But as seen in this thread already, the weave pattern is off in numerous locations, fitment may or may not be exact, and in some cases additional modification may be required. Cost will always be in benefit of the replica, but I choose to purchase the authentic part.

There really is no right or wrong answer, but rather what the owner wants for his/her vehicle.

agreed! You can have perfect weave but if it doesn't fit...

and like others have said, only you will notice the weave is off. Once it's on the car, anyone who's looking at your ride won't be staring long enough to comment on weave.

The Toms diffuser retails for $950 + shipping. The carbon weave are completely perfect. Everything we have shipped out was flawless.

Fitment is spot on too and it comes with everything needed for install.

Not sure how the fitment is on the replica.

Josh, I wouldn't call the fitment on my TOM's perfect. Nor was the surface absolutely without small imperfections.

My two cents on the original: Didn't fit well around the exhaust finishers, nor around the bottom outer (curved) edge. It required a little bit of sanding, but I didn't want to dig into it too much so it's still not a perfect fit - there is a small gap. The clear had some minor pinholes in it and the CF weave wasn't absolutely perfect in all areas. In hindsight, if I were to do it again, I would try the replica since it would match the 2x2 spoiler weave.

Never the less, it's still a gorgeous addon and dealing with a CL vendor (like Josh - big thumbs up) will be better than an eBay seller located in who knows where.

But how much is shipping? The last time I looked into it I thought it was right around $1,200 delivered. And is that a part that you have in stock, or do they need to be special ordered?

I don't mind spending extra on performance parts where quality really matters, but I'm not much into cosmetic mods in the first place so I figured I'd same some money on a replica as long as the quality and fitment is decent. This - along with my Wald rep spoiler - will be the only cosmetic mods I have ever done to a vehicle (aside from wheels, which could be argued is a performance mod - lighter for less unsprung weight, wider for better handling).

My genuine TOM's diffuser isn't 100% perfect. If I had saved money on a replica, I'd be ok with the weave imperfections as long as fitment was good.

My question is, did it come with a rubber gasket? I've been wanting to find a replacement.
