Was this a protector that stayed on since delivery, should I have left it on for some sort of protection? Looks fine (even better) now. Anyone experience this?

I swear I had peeled mine off - nope, found the edge. After 8 years, it was stuck down pretty good, but now those ugly scratches are gone!
I feel so stupid.

It's funny how so many of us did not notice this.. I removed mine awhile back, but I must have had the car for 6-8 months before I realized it was still there...

Thank you! I was going to replace this plastic part due to all the scratches but it isn't cheap. Peeled mine off today when I remembered it while driving on my 2011.

If any of you guys are good with clear film... Make a template first...!!

Peel off OEM.. Replace with newly cut Film.

Now you won't have to worry about scratching the OEM acrylic piece
