As some of you know, I bought a seat of tails from a forum member. They are tinted 2011+ ISX50 lights. They arrived, and were a bit less than I expected.

1. There was a scratch on one of the lenses which I made less noticeable with some polishing compound and a good wax job.

2. One of the harnesses (outer right light) appeared to be defective. Two of the three functions worked (the turn signal and the brake light). The tail light and side marker light didn't work. Lexus, in it's infinite wisdom, changed the connector when they went from the original ISX50 (and ISF) taillight to the later light. Why they would do this is beyond me

Anyway, I removed the connectors from both the new and old harnesses and soldered the new connector to the old harness (the wire colors are the same). This cured the problem and all lights are working as designed.

I really like this particular taillight design and am happy I got them to work

I had these on my 2012 IS350. I was very fond of the vertical clear areas. They came out great Lou! Nice job!

those are gorgeous. where can one find taillights like this?

 

^^^^They were OEM on ISX50 models from 2009 to 2013. The 2009 & 2010 Models have a yellow lens over the turn signal, the 2011 model had a slightly pinkish clear lens over the turn signal and the 2012 on models had a clear (with a yellow bulb) lens for the turn signal. The ones I have are from a 2012 or higher model and they have been smoked.

Why Lexus decided to not use these for the ISF remains a mystery to me

BTW, I agree with you on the appearance Ilike them much better than any of the aftermarket 3IS copy cat tails in the market place.

My guess was to differentiate the ISF from the regular ISx50's a little.

Plus I know it's all a matter of opinion but I think the ISF stock lights are fantastic looking. I was in search of a set when I had my 2011 IS350 because I wasn't really a big fan of the Nike swoosh clear part.

I have to admit, your setup does looks unique.

 

Nope. Don't like them at all...OEM IS-F tails seem the best to me on this car.

^^^^Ok - Fair Enough. But, my over the years, my vehicles have become personal to me, and I from what I have seen, it's personal for others as well. What works for some doesn't work for everyone. And what works for someone else doesn't always work for me!

What I have done to my F is what I like. the changes I have made and am still making to my 8 year old car, are for me, not for anyone else.

This wasn't a spur of the moment decision, I have been lusting after these tails for a couple of years now, and finally found a pair. AND, I like 'em

I need to send you a pin tool so you can just pop the pins out of the connector and stuff them into the new one in the right places. Way easier and better than soldering a harness. I worked on airplanes with soldered connectors. The Air Force spend $1.3B replacing the harnesses in those aircraft with crimped connectors because the solder would wick up the wire under the insulation, and then break the wire where you couldn't see it after years of aircraft vibration. They were impossible to troubleshoot...

 

I think the tails flow well with your color!

 

Certainly would have been better if I had one of those. And, I was in the USAF too Waaaay before you, and only for four years - back in 1957 to 61.
