Low coolant heating issue

So my heater hasn't been blowing much hot air recently. When I'm at idle or just cruising around it blows cold air, I have to bring the rpm's up for a bit for it to finally get hot air but if I just drive normally the hot air turns cold again. I looked around and found the issue where if your coolant is low than the heater won't work and I checked the coolant level and I noticed its way below the "low mark". There's some left but it isn't much, it's pretty much at the bottom. My question is do I have a leak or can coolant get that low on its own? I've never noticed liquid on the ground in my garage or anything. Thanks in advance

Grab a gal of toyota super coolant to fill back up and few issues to check for but should be fairly easy. I noticed a few places on these cars to check for leaks mainly leaky water pump (located right in front of the engine) or the valley plate (located right under the intake manifold). You can also check the radiator but the first two is fairly common leak areas in these cars. If your under warranty take it to Lexus even if your not under warranty they may help you out on the repairs.

There's a few threads on this issue. Try a search using "coolant loss" or "low coolant".

Thankfully there's heated seats. Imagine living in a really cold place.

I drive mine the same way but every couple months sounds too often, maybe you have a leak?

that is the first thing i look for when i got my car since i knew about the issues before buying it but i cant seem to find any types of leak. maybe i will take it to lexus here soon to find out if i have a leak before my extended warranty expires.

I had the same issue about 2 years ago on mine. It's a 2008 and it was repaired under my extended warranty. Coolant exchange valve was bad. Part was relatively cheap, but labor was crazy. It would've cost me about $3,200 if I didn't have the extended warranty. I also had my water pump replaced under warranty as well. It's difficult to search for leaks since there's plastic on the underbody. Take it to the dealership and let them figure out what the issue is. Hopefully your extender warranty covers it.

Yeah I might as well take advantage of the extended warranty and take it in, I'd hate to be stuck with a fat bill like that
