ISF exhaust mark-up?
Does anyone else find the prices for exhaust systems for our cars utterly ridiculous? I'm looking at just a axle-back. Borla is the cheapest at $800. The good one's range between $2-3 grand for a bleeping axle-back. I have no problem spending the money but its the justification I'm having an issue with. Guess its expected on a limited production car like the ISF. I could get a full exhaust for my S14,RX7 for under a 1200. Hell you can get a HKS 4" Titanium Racing Exhaust for a Supra for $1500. Smh
If you want a cheap exhaust for your ISF, a search would have led you here:

If you bought the ISF with intentions of modding with affordable aftermarket parts then you prob chose the wrong car. Plus comparing a single exit 4 cyl exhaust to a dual exhaust v8 isnt quite comparing apples to apples. Sure it prob doesnt justify double the cost but still. limited productions cars + less market/competition = make your own price

Honestly, I do find it comical that our exhausts choices are considered expensive. For those who are familiar with the aftermarket scene for MB, Audi, and BMW, an exhaust alone is well more than what we might pay for our catbacks, yet owners there won't even bat an eye. It's just the price of having an item that you as an owner wants.
Yes other vehicles have more affordable aftermarket items, but along with that came an interest and a market to support. The IS F market, especially one that caters to those wanting to customize, is rather small to begin with. I don't see paying 2-4k for an exhaust anywhere near as exorbitant as something for say an M3/M4 or C63. That's where the surprise should hit the owner most.
I'm all for saving money, but I have stuck to my philosophy of paying for authentic items and items that I'd want on my car. I'm certainly not going to discredit someone who chooses to put Rotas or the "N" word (Nankangs...lol) on their F, though I won't agree with that. To each, his/her own, and I'll leave it at that.

supply and demand. Sadly for us there is neither relatively so we PAY to PLAY.
Not trying to brag but the techs who work on my car look at the welds on the Joe Z system like its mechanical ****

Errmmm..to be fair.. the ISF catback exhausts are some of the cheapest. I really cant complain. If you go with the valvetronic ones for german cars for the Porsche, M or AMG they start at 3k min to about 8k for titanium or inconel materials.
Back in the days when I put in cheap stainless steel mufflers (not catback) from ebay on civics and those is already going to cost a few hundred bucks....and it's not even a catback system.
So for a high performance lexus I think this is already very reasonable. Why would anyone sell a product at cost? i dont think anyone want to work for free. You can always have a shop custom weld a few pipes and put in generic mufflers but you might hate the sound and need to switch things around...that takes experimentation and time and chances are it will exceed 1k easily.
On a side note, why would anyone want an axle back for $800 when you can get the catback for $200 more....

JoeZ is a good one and it's under 2k shipped... Not sure what the problem is here?
Back in the day an exhaust for the Supra was much more $$ especially for a 4"(stainless)
Also the lack thereof companies building them help keep the price high so no market flood either.

I've owned several sets of Rays,Work,Leon Hardiritt wheels. I have no problem spending $4k plus on a set of wheels. I find it ridiculous what these companies are charging for just an axle-back. Very little material involved. I can at least respect what HKS and Icode did with a multiple canister design but $3k plus is still unjustifiable in my opinion. Maybe I need to look at exhaust systems differently. I've never paid over $1500 for a complete system on any of my previous builds. These were full exhaust including down-pipe. I'd gladly pay $2k for a full stainless cat-back system for my ISF. But I'm only interested in the axle-back. Have had enough loud droning exhaust systems over the years. My ISF is not a daily but at 35 I'm no longer interested in having a loud smelly exhaust.
Totally understand about the sound..my borla annoys me. It would be interesting to know if anyone make a quieter catback. But you gain very little performance, if any, for the axle back though. In that situation you might be better off staying with stock?
