^I second this! He's been more than helpful in assuring the install for the OS Giken goes smoothly with his insights and tips. But to have the factory Torsen is still an upgrade from the 08-09 eLSD. And he along with the few members who actually have the OS Giken all confirm how much it transforms the car, even more so than the Torsen stock differential.
i'd listen to lobuxracer. can't be biased when he has both.
yeah I'd go for the OS too if I was really tracking it or if I wanted a more of an advanced setup, however for most that dont have access nor the experience to crack open that diff and install it and just need a basic torsen lsd to have fun with (which is probably majority of the people), buying an oem unit for a 3rd of the price is quite a bargain also a lot less headaches down the road since its a direct swap opposed to opening the diff and ensuring the work was done properly, or better yet having downtime to send someone the diff to get the work done properly.
The oem one works quite well actually especially on the street.
Also Im not sure if the OS one requires more maintenance, but I believe it uses different fluid, can someone chime in?
That's funny...I also emailed him on Tuesday with no response?
What's even weirder, is that the pictures he posts look like they are from Utah or some mountainous region in the USA........No snow on the ground, and there is no junk yards in the area of Toronto he is stating in the ad.
The pictures are also dated 12/09/15 and have IAAI.com written across them........so no way is this a Canadian car....just a USA Kijiji spammer . No sane Canadians buy a salvaged car and ship to to Canada for part out.
All of his other items also look very suspicious....total troll!
Lots of links to other IS F's int he USA through this Salvage Insurance company
Thanks for the link, however it looks you have to be a dealer to be able to buy from this site. Plus looks like you can't buy individual parts. Anyone have any links to where I can find a factor Torsen LSD. I've been looking at car-parts.com for quite some time without any luck. Heck, if anyone finds me a 2010+ LSD I'll give you a finders fee! Just PM me!
There's a reason Toyota chose the Torsen over a clutch diff.
Think about it.
It won't wear out under normal use. If you drag race, you'll find the limitations of the Torsen pretty quickly and it won't be pretty. There's a thread on Supraforums showing the disintegrated guts of a factory Torsen after a healthy dose of drag racing.
I didn't think I would really notice the difference on the street - at least I was not expecting it to feel significantly different than my Supra. I was very surprised and happy that it is very noticeably better, and any time you find yourself cresting a ridge, as in uphill driveway to flat street, you will definitely be happy you have a clutch type. Torsen diffs are no different than an open diff as soon as one wheel loses all traction. You would not think this would be common on the street, but I am surprised at how many times the Giken has saved me when I needed to merge into traffic from a road intersecting at a negative angle. I am really serious when I say this is one of the next things I will do to my Supra because it's that much better.
Interesting... So basically it is recommended to change fluids on those clutch-type lsds more frequently opposed to the stock torsen which requires fluid changes at intervals of 60k miles. Also, for someone actually tracking the car or putting the clutch-lsd to good use, I'm sure the discs will wear out faster, something us Torsen guys don't have to worry about.
Always wanted to try one out unfortunately was never on my list of to do mods.
