Default First oil change suprises

I purchased a used 2008 IS-F in November of last year and had to do my first oil change today. I found a few surprises today while changing the oil myself.

1st: There was no crush washer on the drain plug. This made me do a big LOL.

2nd: I found out that the oil filter housing still had the oil filter tool still attached. Another LOL. I attached a wrench to it and just tapped it backwards and wiggled it off. It was the famous TOY 640. Yayy freebie for me. Yet I had just purchased a tool from autozone.

3rd: The oil filter housing was on so darn tight that I had to use a giant ratchet to get it off. I mean even with leverage I couldn't budge it. It was definitely on over 100ft lbs of torque. What a sign of relief when I got it off and it was not damaged in the slightest.

All in all, I got it all figured out and put in the recommended amount of Pennzoil Platinum Plus. Hopefully she likes it.

My surprise was when I didn't drain my catch bucket enough and at least a quart of oil ended up on my garage floor! Won't make that mistake again!!

I would service everything on the car: fluids, filters, plugs, etc

1. it's a used car and I always like to start with fresh maintenance.
2. obviously someone who had no idea what they were doing worked on the car.
