Default Question for those who have a wald diffuser

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the finish when you received your wald diffuser? I just got one, brand new in box. While there are no issues with the carbon weave itself, I feel like the clear coating on it is not consistent. There are some spots that are a tad dull compared to the majority of it that is glossy.

Is that the norm from what you have experienced or should I try to send it back and wait another 8 weeks for one?

Mine is not glossy like some other carbon bits (hoods, trunks, etc.) Pretty positive that's normal for Wald. I've noticed a lot of the higher end CF companies don't use an ultra high gloss (or maybe not as many coats) I wouldn't trip about it.

Maybe an expert like Josh Lee could also chime in here, I think he'd know.

It's not the overall shine that I'm concerned about but more so that there are some spots that look much less glossy than the majority of it. It's hard to show in pics otherwise I would post them. It just seems like they half assed the clearcoat or something.

Weird. How much did you end up giving up for it? Been looking at diffusers and this is by far my favorite. Hope the quality isn't taking a dive.

I initially thought the same way when I had my WALD diffuser shipped to me. Prior to mounting it, I gave it a detail exactly like I would the rest of the car, including claybar. After a few coats of carnauba wax and sealant, the shine was thorough and there were zero spots that looked "off" in my eyes. I don't think the clearcoat was affected en route, but perhaps the haziness was due to the bubble wrap and packaging. I was more concerned with the look of the CF weave being altered, but there was none of that after inspecting.

I understand what you are saying. I found that my Wald seems to have an issue with the coating as well. Yet, I decided not to care too much since the diffuser will be constantly coated with gunk from being catless..

I brought mine to my detailer and he polished a little bit cuz he was busy. But it did make a difference. Will bring it again when he get time so he can do it properly and coat it.

Are you talking about the reflectors that light up? Ebay is your friend. They are the same reflectors are the Toyota Land cruiser I believe.

Thanks guys. I mounted it today and waxed it. Looks fine from a few feet away. I am a tough critic when it comes to premium priced parts I suppose.

There should be a certain standard that we are looking for when we spend almost $2k on a diffuser. So I'm with you on this.
