backfire or popping noise?

I dont think our cars "pop" as much as other cars such as my previous vette, lambos, etc. they seem to manage fuel differently than some other manufacturers, and if I remember correctly it has to do with excess fuel "exploding" in the exhaust if I remember correctly and is somewhat enhanced without cats.
