has anyone on here ever installed the STS or Artisan turbo kits for our cars?

Is it a bad idea, did they all flop? Are any of theses still available? I see Artisan was claiming 150hp on 6psi.

How has your car reacted to the rear mounted turbo setup? Any problems with the car at all?

I did search but only found threads that have been inactive for a long time. Figured I would just ask instead of searching longer...

 

Short answer is no. No tuning capability make is useless. You would be running dangerously lean if installed.

 

One member here bought a used Artisan twin turbo kit,I believe it was Artisan, I forget his name. Its in the build sticky. Anyway no one with the twin kit actually was successful. Sounded nice but do you really want to spend over $5000 just to get that turbo sound? There are no time slips,no track times. Its a waste of money. There's no tune for the F so I hope you can see its pointless. There was a twin turbo F that raced a full bolt on IS350 and the IS350 beat it multiple times.

 

You also have to appreciate the stock engine has been tweaked by Yamaha to produce more power already.

Adding a turbo to a n/a setup like ours is bound to add stresses and strains it was never built for.

You'd be better off looking into something like a 2JZ-GTE swap from the TT Supra!

That is an engine that can easily take 600-800HP with stock internals!

Must admit I miss the tunability of the Supra sometimes.

I'm not convinced there is no way to crack the ECU on these though. Truth be told there aren't enough of them to warrant an ECU tuner doing all the R&D to make it happen.

Prime example over here being Ecutek. These are the guys that cracked the uncrackable (GTR ECU).

They also did official work for a lot of the big names (all the FQ designated Evo's were tuned by them).

I think they would more than likely be able to crack it, but at what cost.........

They wouldn't have the big numbers like they do with the GTR.

I'll probably ask them though regardless. Worst they can say is no!

 

There is a lot of NA cars that have good gains with no issues when changed to forced induction. Corvettes, M3, Lambos, etc etc.

There is no tuning for the stock ECU but there is aftermarket EMS

 

Has anyone looked into the mapecu3? Some members have used a mapecu3 on the 2is and gained some nice power.

GM LTx and LSx engines make great power under forced induction.

However, GM welcomes their performance car market to tune their cars.

 

Over time the stock ECU will remap itself and make that piggy back useless. Someone already tried a piggy back from another company. Initially the gains were there but after driving around for some time, the gains were gone.

 

After market headers, exhaust and intake are only things nice gain and sounds and its reliable

 

Enlighten me on this i haven't seen or heard anything of the sort. An IS350 cant beat a stock ISF with bolt ons how can it beat a turbo one with 100-150ish more hp?

If you're willing to put the wear and tear into the car, and eventually need to put forged internals in after you chew up the stock parts.

Naturally Aspirated is significantly more reliable compared to the spray bottle.

 

The engine comes with a forged crank, so unless you are referring to forged pistons, it's already there. No need for forged pistons with a shot this small in this engine. Toyota is not Chevrolet, and their engines are built far better from the factory than domestics. You can't find a Toyota with a cast crank, they consider it unreliable. The legendary 2JZ-GTE became legendary because the factory build was rated at 320 hp at the crank, but could easily maintain daily reliability at nearly 800 rwhp.

The smallest of my worries with this engine would be killing it with spray. Boost over 6 psi? Sure, I'd be really worried, but even a 150 shot with a properly set up kit won't be a big issue at all.

 

I have run 150 shot with ms109 for 3 years now.... Funny I have had absolutely no problems
