Two years ago, I had changed my tires to the popular 245/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rear in Michelin PSS. Upon recent inspection, my rear tires have almost completely worn out but my front tires seem to have plenty of tread left? I've been to the drag strip once on these tires and the rest has been mostly highway miles. I've heard that rear tires wear faster on rwd cars but I was not expecting this. I had an alignment performed shortly after the tires were changed as well.
Anyway, I was considering changing back to oem size for the rear tires and leaving the front tires. Will I notice any issues with this combination? Thanks!
No, leaving the wider fronts on is a good idea IMO because you will lessen the understeer inherent with the ISF and the stock front 225/40/19 tire. However, if you go to the drag strip, why would you want narrower tires in the rear?
My rear drive cars wear out rears faster than fronts. My front drive cars wear out fronts faster than rears. It's just the way it typically works if you have a good alignment.
I'm running the wider fronts with OEM sized rears right now. It helps better balance the car and reduces understeer. You'll stop quicker too.
