Default Shifting from 2nd into 3rd in manual mode

Has anybody noticed a bit of a lurching effect going from 2nd to 3rd below high rpm's? In sport mode, it seems to lurch forward a tad if I shift at 3000 rpm or less, but even with sport mode off....2nd to 3rd is kind of less than smooth when compared to all other gears.

I guess I am hoping this is typical or my imagination and nothing more serious...

This may be the same issue I thought I had when I first bought my F. Upshifting with the paddles was slow, sometimes exceeding the redline without changing gears. The solution was that the engine oil must be warm or the transmission will not be responsive. So I don't expect quick shifts until I've driven three or four miles.

I noticed when I have sport mode on every time I let off the gas the car will lurch. not necessarily when shifting but just depending on how I push the gas pedal and how much I let off the pedal. (gas pedal becomes much more sensitive to input)

So when I'm stuck in traffic or have the wife and kids on board I usually switch off sport mode to get ride of the lurching.

So I think it could be due to having it in sport mode and you're not actually driving it spiritedly.

I usually find it uncomfortable when I'm not hammering the car and it's on sport mode.

Interesting, I've never really noticed this but I will go try it out at lunch and get back to you with my findings.

In manual mode all but 1st gear locks the torque converter. This makes it feel like a manual when you suddenly let off the gas. Sport mode only changes the steering and throttle response.

The second to third shift is better with more RPMs

Manual mode works best at WOT. Anything less, and it's not the smoothest thing out there at all. I only use manual mode when I want the absolute most from the car. The rest of the time, I just use drive and let the torque converter do what they do best - absorb driveline shock.

Thanks for the replies!

I never go into manual mode until the oil temp gauge hits 2 bars...

In both M and sport, only 2nd to 3rd can be somewhat clunky. No other gears seem to do this. Sometimes, I will be in city traffic taking off from a light only to see the next red light 100 yds ahead of me, so staying in 2nd for extended durations during one drive sorta irks me. Then once I shift into 3rd to get the revs down and sort of coast, it's an off-feeling transition quite consistently.

I'm mainly wondering, is there a way to even address this with a mechanic? Realistically, what options are there? Replacing the tranny for something miniscule seems silly, but I really wanted to know if this is just me or my car or if it's a predominant small-ish issue others have also experienced...

Either way, this isn't a gripe or complaint at all. It's about the only thing I can contemplate since I adore the car so much (and it's only been 3 weeks!). It's an absolute monster and I love it! And on the central coast of cali, I haven't seen another IS-F yet....just a single IS350 F-sport (which I believe is an entirely different animal).

Wide Open Throttle. In the motorcycle world it's called WFO. I'll you figure that one out.
