Hello everyone, this is my first time posting, I purchased a 2011 in October and have found this site to be incredibly helpful. In fact, I have always found answers to all my questions using the search button, until now! I was installing my summer tires on the weekend and on the final tire (drivers front) I had the pinch weld fold over while jacking it up. Has this happened to anyone before? How do I go about fixing it, is a something I can claim on warranty? I have jacked plenty of cars before including this one and have never seen this happen. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again for all the great information.
I have problems jacking sometime, usually I imagine the girl next door coming over to thank me for fixing her laptop...oh wait a min.
Yeah, it has happened on all of my cars when I use a flat jack. They do sell tools that are shaped with a notch to avoid the issue, but I wouldn't worry about it.
I always use a block of wood in between the jack and the lifting point. Or I just lift the whole front end or back using the crossmember or diff. So far, no bends on any of the cars I've owned or Own now.
I folded one on my first Supra in 1994. Never since. If it even thinks of bending, I straighten it with this:
I also use wood on the jack, but I generally lift on the front cross member and put the car down on jack stands at each of the OEM jack points to avoid side loading the body seams.
Thanks for the replys everyone, I have no shortage of hockey pucks around so i guess i will make something like digger08 suggested. My floor jack has a large rubber pad on it, so i never thought this would be a problem.
I tweaked the pinch weld the first time I jacked my F up and straightened it out with a crescent wrench, just like lobux showed.
Luckily FIGS recently came out with a jack jaw for the pinch weld a couple weeks later and I picked one up. It's worked great the half a dozen times I've used it.
