Normally the magnet would be used to check and see if the car had been in an accident and repaired. If the bodyshop used bondo or body-filler the magnet would not stick in those places.

Various changes were made over the years, but as far as suspension/drivetrain goes, the main changes were as follows:

2010 Added the Torsen LSD
2011 Updated the suspension geometry in the rear and the spring rates/shock valving all around
2012 Updated the shocks and springs again, now utilizing ZF shocks in place of the previous Tokicos.
2013 Updated rear suspension bushings, and revised shock valving. Lighter differential case.

Some other changes include:

2009 Changed the sunroof controls from the dial-type to the push-button style. Variable speed power windows added. Interior vents and climate control/nav panel updates.
2010 Changed the navigation system from a DVD-based type to a HDD-based type. USB input added to stereo. Mark Levinson models also changed speaker/amplifier specifications. Alternate optional "snowflake" wheel design added. Safety connect/Enform system added to USA models. Rear view mirror design changed (Homelink buttons moved to front face). Bluetooth phone support added to non-nav equipped vehicles. Bluetooth streaming audio added to all models.
2011 Changed the headlights to the LED-DRL type. Gauge cluster changed to large centre tach style. Sport mode button moved to steering wheel. VSC system no longer beeps when activated.
2012 Alternate optional BBS RE-V type wheel design added.
2013 Apps service added to Lexus Enform. Water-repellent glass used on front door glass.
