It's interesting how some transmissions are so much better than others. Honda makes fantastic manual transmissions, however, their auto transmissions are garbage.

You would think that with so much engineering going into that car that they would design this amazing and durable transmission that can handle "race" type environments. You can put the transmission into "race" mode right?

Just wondering, besides Just F Me, who else has had a bad tranny? Don't they use our 8 speeds in some Porsche models also?

Porsche uses a 7-speed dual clutch...they call it a PDK. They also use the world's first 7 speed manual transmission.

OH...and most likely they use a transmission either made by ZF or Gretag

There is no thermostat for the ATF on the IS-F.

I wrote LARGER oil to air cooler, denoting that one alreadly exists, and one of increased size will be of benefit... appologies if I was not clear.

Coming from someone who just got his transmission replaced under warranty only after 7,000 miles, I've learnt that you should try not to keep the car in first gear when needing the power (e.g. drifting), instead go up to 2nd gear. Apparently something to do with the lock up clutch not engaging in first gear.

interesting I have always allowed my car t warm up and atleast two bars, and or wait till I feel the powerband naturally increase as temps rise until I feel safe before getting on it..what does it feel like when yalls transmission slips? I know as I roll through throttl mine locks up firm through the gears and from stop to first my torque converter rolls in and out of lock up but thats normal, but interesting. I have always let my F idle atleast 5 min dependant on weather before I get in and roll out. at 84K she still locks u very hard and nothing weird yet..knock on wood I guess. Its either lose all my input of money and have already paid 40K off car ith lss than 10K left to go, so Imall the way in and just drive and replace parts as needed until th next car I guess.. its allon cost opportunity at this point

Porsche has had the PDK since the 80s in their race cars. They were not fully reliable so they would generally use the five speed. But, in nature the DCT, PDKs, etc are very simply transmission(s), 2-in-1, so to speak, and use 2 seperate clutches, and are very fast because they can “preselect gears” prior or post one another. I did a project on PDK for one of my engineering classes.

Trust me, you'll know when the trans slips, it will be like the car is revving up but you're not going anywhere..or slightly moving.

Just F Me! thanks fothe interest, it would be hard to show I can screen capture my NILABVIEW simulation doc along withmy multisim then thus to my implementation theoretically how I wuld control te tansmission via plc I/O... It wasa simulation project to take one of your interest, such as for me was the Porsche PDK, and create a labview program-> simulate programming, create a multsim of electronics and various timers that would electromechanically control the trasimission solenoid shifting via multiple timers etc, and then thus ls through RSLOGIX5000 control such a transmission with PLC I/O, with wiring and modeling... I ill see what Ican find and conjure up for you.

When you approach 550whp + tranny will begin to slip.. nothing to worry about. Maybe the solenoids, or the seals may be affected but that is if you constantly abuse it.. only time will tell i guess. The worrisome aspect is not the tranny, but the engine, unfortunately.

When my car is cold the car will rev higher when shifting from like 4th to 5th. It jumps about 1k when shifting but only when in Sport mode and only when the car is cold. That's the only oddity I've noticed and I've got 65k miles on the clock.

At running temp I've had shifts be hard but never felt things were wrong. I really only drive in Sport-Manual mode though.
