Default Custom exhaust

Heading over to a local exhaust shop on Thursday that comes highly recommended through reviews to see about having them build a custom exhaust for my F. On the phone the guy says they can def build one but I wanted some opinions from u guys. What materials should they be using if it's a quality place? Anything specific I should ask the installer? I want to compare his stuff to the Borla, Joe Z, etc before I decide, I'm on the fence about all the exhausts that are available. Sorry if this is already a thread somewhere

What don't you like about the exhaust systems already available?

Haven't got to hear one in person but from video clips the Borla seems too quiet, ISS Forged sounds too loud and raspy, Joe Z seems the best sound so far. Shop near me says they can give me different sound options, just want to explore all options. Wish I could hear an exhaust in person but I have tried for months and nobody near me has an F with an exhaust

I would suggest 304L stainless steel for the tubing/flanges. 304L will minimize weld heat affected zone corrosion. 321 SST would be better, but would cost more (321 will not have weld heat affected corrosion issues). If the builder cannot source 304L, then 304 is what is more commonly used/available, and also why there is some weld heat affected zone corrosion on many supplier made exhausts.

You're right, based on every video that's out there Borla appears to be quiet. I decided to go with it because I didn't want to take a chance of buying one of the others and being too loud. When I started it up I was so impressed, under load it sound great too. Trust me when I say It was much louder than I expected and very happy with the choice I made.

Between Borla, Joe Z, ISS, HKS, Greddy... and 10+ exhaust in the CRAZY expensive category imo its a little crazy to have a custom exhaust built. At least you know there is over the top quality and theres no guessing what they will sound like with the mass produced exhausts. By the time you know what a custom one sounds like you will owe the shop for building it and you dont know if it will even make the same kinda power. Go with Proven and tested. I made 20 wheel with Joe Z... and have put it threw extensive track time. its worth the 1700 bucks.. im sure same goes for the 1200 with borla. you prob cant get a better exhaust for the money.

I would recommend a material called inconel if it's available at your local shop.

Only if money is no object. Inconel is great stuff, but its obscenely expensive for anything but a turbo manifold.
