I was given a can of plasti-dip recently and remembered in a previous post, members were purchasing vinyl 'decals' to black out the lower rear bumper. I was wondering if anyone has used plasti-dip to achieve the same result? I would imagine a really good masking job is needed for it to come out clean. Here's a picture of what I want to achieve:

Biggest caveat is that Plasti-dip has a pretty rough texture and runs easily. Unless you use the glossifier stuff to get a shine it is also a very dull finish. I don't have personal experience with that stuff yet so can't tell you how it turns out.

Plus side is that it peels right off cleanly, so there isn't really any downside to giving it a try

 

I hear that it's difficult to get clean lines unless there's a large gap. From the videos on their website, cutting/scoring maybe required to achieve clean lines for what you're trying to achieve. I haven't tried anything like this so it's just my opinion.

 

There's a video on YouTube showing that Fonzi guy masking off some wheels (I think it's wheels) and then spraying another color thick and prying off the tape to make a clean line. It'll allow you to do what you want to do and have a good surface.

There's ways to fix the texture and also so the texture doesn't happen in the first place.

 

You could plasti-dip your rear bumper piece (I had my vinyled with the s4play)

I masked off the rear bumper area and rear quarter panels well, applied a few coats of plasti dip (intended to be used as a primer) and over top coated with black satin paint. came out very well

Personally, I would never plasti-dip anything on the IS-F, but that's just me ^^

It all depends on your prep work and how you paint the "diffuser"

Not to skew off topic, but small world, huh? ..if only the ISF were 6-speed...

Keep the plasti-dip on the "cheaper" cars, not the ISF!

 

I agree; I don't want to ruin the ISF. I figure since it's so easy to start over or remove that I'd experiment with it. I'll keep you guys posted if I decide to move forward. Thanks for the inputs.

 

So what ever did you do? and do you have any pics?

 

The pic in post #1 is my car. The area in question is painted. It was a mixture of stock paint and dark grey to obtain the color that I liked best.

I believe, plastidip is very flammable. I would be very careful to be spraying that area of the car.
