Hi all,

I am debating which tires to use between below winter tires.

1) Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice WRT (Studless Ice & Snow) - $165
or
2) Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 (Studless Ice & Snow) - $173

Has anyone used any of above tires? Or any suggestion of decent winter tires for 18 rims?

I've used Blizzaks on all 4 corners of all of our last 4-5 cars. Never an issue getting around in the FWD cars. The rear will tend to step out on you when stopping if you run only two snow tires on a FWD car. They run +/- $300.00/ea locally.
The RX is AWD but still looking at 4 Blizzaks. Might be a local sale on Michelin X-Ice so we'll see where the price lands.

 

I'd get the blizzaks or michelins as they have good reviews...not sure about the goodyear though. Just so you know I drive my car in the winter with Blizzaks LM60. 18" wheels and square setup same size on all 4 tires and wheels.

 

I run 18" square set up of Nokian Hakapaliitta in Canada, not sure how popular they are in the states.

yeah thx for the input Teo. I am leaning more to Blizzaks since they have good reviews, Then now its WS70 ($173) vs LM60 ($216)....is it worth getting winter performance tires for $160 more?

LM60 has real good review but WS70 also has good review but they are not performance tires. you guys think being performance will give me advantage?

I"d say go with the WS60 since its cheaper, also better for heavy snow...the LM60 is a better all around tire, ok in dry and good in light snow. im going to try the nokian tires next after my set is done or the michelins. just be smart and drive safely and u should be fine.

 

I had nokians on my subie. They were awesome. Running Blizzaks all around on the F.

 

Thanks Teo!! i was able to find out what are the differences between two tires. As you said it seems like WS60 will be more suitable for me. thanks again.

but last question, the TPMS. i read other thread talks about this sensor and i suppose i have no choice but to add below 4 sensors and valve caps when i orders the rims and tires from tire rack?

How long is your winter? Are you planning to get aftermarket rims for your F other then your winter setup and oem in the future? If your winter is short then I would bypass the sensor. Your check system light will come on but that will be for a couple of months. just make sure to check your pressure from time to time. I bypass mines due to having aftermarket wheels as I am on my vossen and you can only have 2 sets of wheels program to the ecu, unless you have the tpms programmer. It would be a good investment if you plan on having different sets of wheels. I might have 4 sets soon. oem,winter,show,track. lol

 

my plan is to get the 245 and 275 Vredestein winter tires....
I had them in almost similar application on my previous 335 and it did excellent in the ny/nj winters.

 

Bridgestones are very noisy with lousy traction on my SUV.

 

please let us know what model blizzak? i have only experience with lm60 and the lm25 on sedans only. u might want to get a different brand or the stud tires if your winter is really bad.

 

It was the Blizzaks DM-V1s. I really didn't know how bad they were until I replaced them with a new set from another company. i can't recall the brand right now b/c they're in storage. I believe they're Yokohamas, maybe.

But I noticed right away how quiet they were and less slippage than the Blizzaks. I was so impressed that when Spring came around, and I was back at Discount Tire to swap back my all-seasons, I had to tell the salesmen my experience. He divulged that the Blizzaks were overpriced and performed poorly in his opinion.

 

wow Teo ur awesome thx for the clear understanding, i know what i want now. And I live NJ, so my winter starts Nov~Feb or March. Last year's winter was pretty warm and less snow, but we'll see how it goes.
